CHP Zero Tolerance on front license plates???

anyone else recall what that park ranger told all of us today about the CHP starting to enforce zero tolerance on front license plates throughout california now? Even putting cameras at the toll booths at the bridges(!)

I hadnt heard about this before, but I dont see why he would have been BSing us, park rangers dont give a crap if people drive around the highways without front plates, in his own words " I got better things to do than write no front plate tickets"

What'd you all think??

i heard him saying stuff about ticketing people with no plates going up to the observatory, but never that. Sounds pretty dumb though if it's true, i cross a bridge everyday

Its definitely true. The law has been on the books for years, I got a fix-it-ticket about 7 years ago for not having a front license plate (with a note about going 45 in a 35; my parents weren't too happy about it, but at least I didn't have to pay for a speeding ticket).

Now that California is in a budget crunch, its time to start enforcing those revenue increasing laws.

oh yeah I knew it was the law, but not very aggresivly enforced, but he said specific the CHP doing a statewide zero tolerance, and when he said that about the bridges everyone around me gasped well Ive always had mine on since it doesnt look to bad against silver and I dont want to give cops any more excuses to harrass me as it is, but there were ALOT of you out there today with no front plate

Yep, never had a front license plate on in the last 17 years. Got a no-license plate ticket for that in 1989 when my parking meter ran out. Paid the extra $24, did not put plate on.

I may have been one of the first that that 'cop' up at Lick Observatory stopped (2:20pm). He gave me a 5-minute lecture, and I SO wanted to tell him to save his voice because he'd have to repeat himself for the 100 other no-front-plate Subies who I knew would be on the way

He's a Univ of Calif 'cop'. Didn't have anything better to do with his afternoon.

I felt like he was being overdramatic, but if and when I get a coupla fix-it no-plate tickets, I'll put mine back on. Otherwise, no.

Fastrak & red-light cameras are the only systems I know that take pics of license plates, and they do the front & back. Duhh, of course they'd design 'em to do that. It ain't rocket science.

FYI, toll bridges capture the rear license plate.

yup. http://www.lapdonline.org/bldg_safer...raffic_tip.htm

Yeah, its supposed to be mounted on the bumper. Plus, on the dash would make it a projectile aimed right at you in an accident.

It's been said before, but why give an officer a reason to pull you over? Once stopped, you might be cited for other possible violations (illegal window tint, 'modified' exhaust, vehicle ride height too low, etc.).
