Most speedometers have more then a 1MPH variation at 65MPH.

Well, state law does state that you cannot exceed the posted speed limit for highways and freeways (55mph (CVC 22349(b)), 65mph (CVC 22349(a)), and after special surveying 70mph (CVC 22356(a), 22356(b)), or possibly less than 55mph (CVC 22354(a))).

Now, the cops/highway patrol can be dicks about it, but they are within the law. And while the basic speed law (CVC 22350) does apply, it does not override the sections denoting maximum highway speed. And just because everyone is over the speed limit doesn't mean they won't pull you over. Remember the car you're driving and how it tends to stand out, then look at your speedometer.

I'm not saying you won't win in court, you might, you might not. I'm just saying, they can give you a ticket.

Drive safe, and stay alert.

On southbound 680 near the Mckee exit there is always a CHP on the center barrier with a radar gun (weekends too). 2 weeks ago a porsche did a flyby on me and got pulled, it was pretty hilarious.

i got a ticket for 70mph in that area before. when I got pulled over right before the Mt. Hammy meet cuz the CHP officer wanted to ask why he saw 150 subarus go up the mountain to do some "drag racing", I asked him about the officer that pulled me over and he told me that he is like that and will almost always pull over anyone breaking 65mph. He works during the morning commute hours. this crackdown they are doing happens every now and then on top of that one cop who does this.

There's letter of the law and spirit of the law. There is no way in hell a cop is going to pull you over for doing 1 mile an hour over the speed limit. Not unless he/she suspects that you might be guilty of something else and is using the 1mph thing as the PC to stop you.
