If you do the work yourself, be sure to use the right wrench for the lines. Failure to do so will strip the hard line which sucks.

If he's just doing pads and rotors this shouldn't be an issue. That being said, yeah, stripping/rounding off the hard line is no bueno. The right tool for that job is a flare nut wrench but I can't recall the specific size needed but I believe it's a 10mm x 12mm (one on each end).
