Cheap synthetic 15w-50?
Cheap synthetic 15w-50?
I was buying 5 quart bottles of Mobil 1 15w-50 at Walmart for $25, but they don't seem to carry it anymore. Any other places to get it for cheap?

Haha going to try torefrain from oil discussion
Op try a different walmart or go to an auto shop like kragen/napa and maybe they can order it if you specifically want mobil 1 15-50...
If not plenty of capable oils that you won't need to use such a heavy weight..curious as to why you chose 15-50? Haha couldn't help but ask

Its a blueprinted motor and so the bearing clearances are wide. Even with 50 weight the oil pressure can drop below 10 psi at idle once the oil is hot. So it's 50 weight or bust!
I'll try another Walmart, but since it's not on their webpage I'm not optimistic they still carry it.

Can't say its the cheapest but we swear by it and only use it in our personal vehicles (everything from my grocery getter Tribeca, to my 199k 02 WRX, to our dodge 2500 4x4, to our STi race car, and our old skool 1969 360...if we own it; it has Swepco in it). If you get the "performance service" at our location, its what we use as an upgrade.
We also offer/use Mobil 1, with no issues for motor oil but then again we only offer it in 10w30 (which burns way less than the 5w30).
Swepco Oils
*Main reason to be using a 50 weight is for track purposes and/or if bearing tolerances are out of spec.

If so, who would "blue print" bearing clearances as such?
Makes no sense at all.
And if you're seeing oil pressure that low, your may want to switch to Redline's GL-5 gear lube...I'd start at 75w-90.

"Blue Printed" means to have everything spec'd to maintain all the proper pressures/levels in a more extreme environment, hence why you blue print.
Again I would look at your blue print sheet (which I assume was provided by the builder) and see what everything was spec to b/c things won't last long running at under 10psi. And no amount xx weight oil will fix that kind of pressure drop...something is not right.

Seriously...some **** just doesn't make sense to me.
OP...I'm not baggin' on you, but what did the engine builder tell you about the care and feeding of this engine?
BMW M series engines run fairly tight bearing clearances and still mandate a 10w-60 oil.
Do you know what the bearing clearances are on your engine?
What type of oil pump are you using?

I'm the engine builder and no offense taken. I'll have to dig out the clearances. For the most part I achieved the clearances on the rods and mains that Cosworth uses for their motors and they call for 50w oil. It does have a new stock oil pump. The cams where a little loosey goosey in the head and that's probably where all the oil is going. It's got 7k on and I'm not expecting it to last forever.
