Nope. A girl at my work got a ticket (at that same intersection I think) and it IS a video tape even though they send you the citation with stills.

If you did stop before the line, I suggest you go review the tape, because the tape could set you free! If you plead guilty IN COURT they usually reduce the fee to $89 or so + traffic school. Don't be a ***** in court or you'll get the whole fine. I suggest you don't wear the mohammed shirt .

If you've already done traffic school recently and need to fight it, do it by written declaration (info should be on the ticket). Try to postpone it as long as possible... maybe there's some chance videos are deleted after x months?

So on top of the $250 fine for running the red, she got a "Driving with a hazardous device" an extra $150 added to the ticket....those cameras suck...lazy *** cops.

Er... Maybe if she hadn't been talking on the cell phone she would have noticed the traffic signal?

Most of the newer cameras capture a few seconds of digital video now also when they go off. The issue was the camera can't show a speed at which you were driving, because it's illegal to use an unmanned speed sensing/timing device in CA (speed trap laws). Instead now the camera, when activated, takes a few seconds of video in addition to the stills.

Oh, and if you did stop well before the line the video will make you guilty of a crime. See, the camera only activated itself when you were crossing the line on a red light...so it only caught you moving over the line driving through a red like you didn't stop. You need to stop at their sensors before crossing over the line, or you will be shown driving over the red light line at speed.

I got nabbed on Alvarado Niles and Royal Ann/H street making a right. Those tickets suck. And from what i've heard the judges don't like overturning the "RIGHT ON RED" tickets.

Good luck man, just do what I did. 45min of traffic school, take your final and be done with it.

As far as I know. They do require signs when entering a different city. They don't need to put up signs where they actually are though. So as long as you are entering a different city that has signs posted about photo enforced cameras. They're clear. So they don't have to put up signs where the photo enforced lights are.

Wish you guys had posted this 2 days ago. I got popped by this POS leaving the gym the other day. Waiting for the ticket now. No traffic school for me.

This has me thinking I should take my front plate back off. I didn't see a camera behind the intersection. All the traffic issues I've had in the past 5 years have been in San Mateo. fxtas

Hello,

Gym? PG? I was heading to the gym when I got binked. Yeah, as soon as I finish moving to Sunnyvale (2 miles from the new PG), I will never again go to San Mateo. I hate San Mateo.

Yeah. It's a good gym. Just stay the hell out of the men's steam room...

I like SM. Hate the traffic enforcement.

I don't feel like reading everything, but Dan check this out. You can fight the red light ticket and the judge will only make you pay a small amount. I was in court for one of my many fremont exhaust tickets and there were like 15 people that got tickets for running a red light while making a right turn.

Show the judge your picture, he'll see that you were going 15mph which means you were making a right turn and he will most likely reduce the fine. He did it for every one that got a ticket making a right turn.

One moron tried to say he wanted his red light ticket reduced because everyone else was getting theirs and the judge said, well you were going 55mph, I'd hope you weren't making a right turn. And denied him.

So dude, don't pay. Go before the judge. He'll reduce the fine.

my dad got the same ticket. i asked him if he had stopped at the red light, he told me he did. then i watched the video and i ask him again. he still said he did, so i showed him the video. i saw the video online, forgot the site, will check when i get home. and samething, the right side traffic had a green left turn arrow, so it's not like he's running a red light.

wait how long did it take to get your notice?

they have only 15 days to send the ticket to you. California Vehicle Code Section. 40518 says:

40518. (a) "Whenever a written notice to appear has been issued by a peace officer or by a qualified employee of a law enforcement agency on a form approved by the Judicial Council for an alleged violation of Section 22451, or, based on an alleged violation of Section 21453, 21455, or 22101 recorded by an automated enforcement system pursuant to Section 21455.5 or 22451, and delivered by mail within 15 days of the alleged violation to the current address of the registered owner of the vehicle on file with the department, with a certificate of mailing obtained as evidence of service, an exact and legible duplicate copy of the notice when filed with the magistrate shall constitute a complaint to which the defendant may enter a plea. Preparation and delivery of a notice to appear pursuant to this section is not an arrest."
