Be careful with where you get your car reflash?

This is from a Evom member:

"my buddy Marv's '05 STi was stolen from his home at 4:30AM today. hasn't even had it a month. AZ lic plate # 049-SBN. if it's anyone driving that don't look like a brotha, pop em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it has something to do with who flashed his car since you can see the immobilizer code when you flash. i think kingpin is up to something but no proof yet, YET."

I guess this EVO driver doesn't know SH** about Subaru. He is talking smack without knowing a gadomn thing. The guy probably couldn't afford the car anymore, and had it conveniently "misplaced". You CAN'T get an immobilizer code from the ECU, and anybody who says you can better lay off the exhaust fumes!!

Mind you...with the immobilizer key, you have to program all of the keys at the same time...and obviously that couldn't happen without quite a bit more information/proof of ownership.

1. In order to get an immobilizer key cut (by using VIN number), you have to have the registration, AND your driver's license, and they MUST MATCH EXACTLY.

2. Getting the key programmed requires that you have ALL keys to the vehicle in your possession.

Hmm, maybe I should go flame his dumb ignorant A$$.

Done.

I toned it down a bit so that they don't immediately delete it. I gave them a little insight into reality.

Actually, its not. its a misdemeanor. Important part here:
PENAL CODE
SECTION 466-469

"or who shall knowingly make or alter, or shall attempt to make or alter, any key or other instrument named above so that the same will fit or open the lock of a ... vehicle as defined in the Vehicle Code, without being requested to do so by some person having the right to open the same...knowing or having reason to believe that it is intended to be used in committing a misdemeanor or felony, is guilty of a misdemeanor. "

So, the dealership service guy has to not only not get the info, but has to know that you are going to use it to commit a crime. Even then, its only a misdemeanor.
