Mind you...with the immobilizer key, you have to program all of the keys at the same time...and obviously that couldn't happen without quite a bit more information/proof of ownership.
1. In order to get an immobilizer key cut (by using VIN number), you have to have the registration, AND your driver's license, and they MUST MATCH EXACTLY.
2. Getting the key programmed requires that you have ALL keys to the vehicle in your possession.
Hmm, maybe I should go flame his dumb ignorant A$$.

people don't understand that its a felony for a dealership employee to order a cut key for a customer without verifying that they have current, valid driver's license and registration...

Actually, its not. its a misdemeanor. Important part here:
PENAL CODE
SECTION 466-469
"or who shall knowingly make or alter, or shall attempt to make or alter, any key or other instrument named above so that the same will fit or open the lock of a ... vehicle as defined in the Vehicle Code, without being requested to do so by some person having the right to open the same...knowing or having reason to believe that it is intended to be used in committing a misdemeanor or felony, is guilty of a misdemeanor. "
So, the dealership service guy has to not only not get the info, but has to know that you are going to use it to commit a crime. Even then, its only a misdemeanor.
