Car show thoughts
I don't know if anyone has posted anything about the car show. But wanted to get people's opinions about it if you went this year. I'm talking about the car show at the Moscone center in SF that's hosted every year during turkey weekend.
Pretty dead this year in my opinion. No spectacularly great cars to be wowed by or upcoming concepts. Saw the GTR, great engineering achievement, but I don't think it's that great looking from the front. Lexus ISF looks pretty ugly with its enormous hood. R8 looks nice... Aston Martins were nice...Ferrari's were same ol, as well as Porsche. Nothing too new about the STi or Evo than we already know. Took a glance at the 370Z and went about my day. There was this VW that I thought looked pretty nice, brand new and forgot its name. Other than that, pretty dead car show this year.

Eh, I wasn't all that impressed either. I thought the Subaru section was kind of a joke. People were in the STI messing around with the gear box, and tinkering around under the hood, I hope they don't try to sell that one! I thought the "drift/extreme racing section was a joke as well, they had some beater civics up there with no more than a few pointless bolt-ons from what I could tell. They did have a pretty sick evo though, buy I wish there was a rally type suby there or something. They were also having a $500 rebate giveaway at Subaru, where the sticker price of the STI was at around 41K. I think I'd rather go to another dealership and walk away with one for under 32, you can keep your $500.00 rebate, thanks. Overall, unimpressed!

Yeah it didn't feel alive or exciting overall. In fact if you took away the Vette's from the Chevy display, it just seemed like a bunch of tonka toys on a sea of beige carpet.
I did check out the Evo, STi, and MazdaSpeed3 hands on finally. My thing was its weird how the 'performance models' on some lines (Lancer\Evo , Impreza\STi, Corvette\ZR1) are twice the $$ from base to top level, but do we really get TWICE the car?
Got a look at the big honkin Dodge Challenger, thats a big beezie which I'd never buy, but a very good update of a classic design nonetheless. Also got reunited with the beloved Audi S5 & R8. For some reason I was into the new Mini's, and my friend was a giddy school girl over the Volvo C30, she was just worried about privacy with the back glass/hatch.She also likes the Scion Tc & Xd. She couldn't tell the difference from 50 feet away between the current Impreza & Carolla. The Jetta TDi caught my eye for its price/performance/kickass mpg.
That robot at the Ford display was creepy, like TCAP creepy. Poor Jaguar/Range Rover got shoved outta the luxury/exotic hall out next to wack old Dodge. Just as I thought, the new nose design Acura is using is indeed hideous.

The challenger was pretty nice looking, but would never buy, but it was nicely updated and still remaining true to that old school look.
I didn't stay too long around Audi but I did catch a glance at the S5, but the R8 is just as sexy in person as it is in real life.
Didn't look at Volvos, but my girlfriend was going crazy over the Mini's and now she'll try to convince her mom to buy one... And hopefully I'll get to drive it
... Scions are well, scions... Pass.
I don't understand why people buy hybrids when Diesel engines are wayyy more fuel efficient than hybrids. But yeah for gas I'd want to get that TDI.
The Jaguars are pretty nice, except that one car, forgot the name that was on a platform looked like a pimp's car. And that's no exaggeration

If I wasn't a huge fan of awd, I would have jumped on the MS3 lickity split.
Given the garage space & $$ , I'd have a Mini Cooper for DD and a Subie as a mod *****.

I would pass on the Ralliart, it's only in automatic, unless that part doesn't bother you.

Nothing that special for me either. Subaru had a very small section with nothing we haven`t seen before. Some dude gave me an invitation to drive some Lexi and M3`s with free food and drinks on them, but that`s until June. Not sure if I`ll attend as I`m a busy guy. Well, to me the convertible Camaro was pretty eye catchy. I actually liked that thing.
That`s all.

I totally forgot about the drop top 'maro. It was ironically perched right across from all the eco-bikes.
If theres a chance to drive any car you may not be able to buy outright, you do it! Been to 2 of the audi driving experiences @ infineon already. chomping at the bit for them to come back next year.

The car show was the lamest thing in the world, apparently all the stuff is down in LA where its more important????
anyways..............that was the weakest showing ever, a 911 turbo vert?? no regular, no gt2, no gt3, only gallardo no murcielago or anything else.......................
nobody even brought any of their new cars or cool ****...........
I saw way better/cooler cars at laguna seca in august.......
zr1 only good thing......
I was disgusted, and will no longer return to the auto show in SF. TURDSSSS
