Car Audio gurus??

Hey peeps, just wondering if there were any car audio gurus in the Bay Area (perhaps around San Jose-ish) that would be willing to help me out on some audio stuff? nothing too fancy, just speakers and all, but I don't want to go to some shady shop or Best Buy where things will be overpriced.

hey Weak Sauce, what exactly are you installing?

The head unit is pie, but speakers are a bit more complicated. Got to make sure they fit. Did you pick up speaker spacers? If you haven't, you may want to save yourself the trouble and get the ones made for our cars. I forgot the website, but they look triangular/circlish.

Anybody know what spacers I'm talking about?

Other than that, it's just a matter of connecting wires.

IA performance is the website he's referring to. They have a list of what spacers you should get depending on which speaker you have.

Yup, I need speaker spacers. I know which ones you're referring too. The head unit is easy?? Really?? Well, I plan on getting satellite radio so I should probably go to a shop for that bit. However, I need help with the speakers. I'm getting Infinity components up front, Coax in the rear and perhaps a sub and a couple of amps. The speakers would be in the stock locations...unless, there's a much better way??

Weak Sauce: I'm in San Jo and I have an extra harness for the head unit. Just pay for the harness and I'll help you install the head unit. It should be pie. As for hooking up satellite radio, is it built into your head unit or ? It shouldn't be too hard to mount the hardware.

I have Infinity in the front and rear of my car. They should fit easily. If you got 5.25 rears, you won't need a spacer for them. At least I didn't. Some trimming of the door did happen for me though.

Mounting in stock locations should be simple.

Are you getting your door speakers amped? If you are, that's pretty much a whole day. I can help you run all the wiring required and hide it so you won't see it. As for cutting the doors and drilling mounting holes... I'm not so sure I want to do on someone else's car.

Signed,
Charlie

Charlie, thanks for the help offer, I'll definitely take you up on the head unit install when I get it in. The way I'm going with the Satellite radio is to get a Sat ready head unit, a tuner and an antenna. Yes, the speakers will be amped. I can't make it later tonight to the P&P meet, but you wanna hook up at Big Dawgs? I've never been there so i'td be a nice way to break the ice. Lemme know. Thanks!!

What people fail to realize is that 1) no one at BBY works on commision and 2) there's a 40-60% margin on car stereo stuffs. Go in there, ask for help, then tell the dude there's no way your paying that price and to give you a great deal or your walking out. I've never paid full price for any retail **** since working there.

Maybe we should do an audio install day or sumpin. I need to put my HU and controller thing in my RS, and I wanted to run new wires to the speakers. If I get brave, I want to install 2 amps, find a box for my sub and install that too. I am not sure if I need to pick up a harness since I won't be using any of the stock wiring. I definitely need a sub amp, 4 way amp, sealed box for a 10 and speaker wire tho. Gonna be a lot of work. If I have the whole weekend, I will do some minor dynamatting - at least the doors and rear package shelf.

Anyone have a good suggestion on how to mount two amps and a box in the trunk of an '01 RS? This is sort of a stumbling block for me.

Whoa.. Post 1000. Do I get a cookie?

If we do an audio install day, I'll drop by to help; I just can't make a commitment to help with an entire install by myself. I had, at one point, ripped every interior panel out (except dash) to dynamat the WRX. Then I proceeded to redo them when I felt like adding more. LOL. Speaker, sub, amp, and headunit installs are not a problem...

Only problem is that I don't have time to fiddle with anymore. I barely have time to post on i-club now.

Saturday Evenings and Sundays are good days for me if you want to do an install on car audio. I can help you run the wire, it's not tough .

Ohhh! Stereo install day! Maybe I should buy some Dynamat so I can get my trunk Dynamated. Maybe it's time to get new speakers while I'm at it. Anyone got hook ups for a good price on Kenwood eXcelons or Infinity References? I'm on a budget, so I can't get myself some baller speakers.

Yeah, I plan to dynamat at least the doors. We did my friend's entire '03 Civic Si two weekends ago and I am still sore. The car is quiet as a Benz tho - we went to Napa last weekend and watched a movie on the way up - sweeeet.
