I am just about positive I want an STI, but not being able to test drive one is keeping me from spending the money. At this point I just need a ride in one to make sure its right for me. If there is anyone in the bay area (I'm in berkeley) who could take me for a short ride I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

A Subaru dealership will let you drive one if your credit is good enough to qualify for the loan. Either that, or get pre-qualified at your bank or credit union and bring the documentation with you.

or just come out to one of the local meets (UCKK always has a nice turnout) and ask nicely

FWIW, i didnt test drive mine...

the sales dude asked me if i wanted to. too busy signing the papers... lol...

 

I didn't test drive mine, either. I didn't even see the car until 10 min before signing the papers.
