can a catless uppipe affect smogging in california?

hey my car has to get smogged in june and i want to put an sti catless uppipe on it while the engine is out of the car...

so will this cause me to not pass smog?
or would the smog be more affected by the downpipe if it was catless?

i know it's probably a crazy question but can you pass smog with catless up and down pipes?

i would love to be catless but not if it means taking it off in a few months just to pass smog.

you can pass catless DP through some shady place.

All you'll need is a catted DP and you should be good to go.

Is this a trick? you have almost 5k posts under your belt... haha

You can pass with a catless uppipe just fine. Just make sure the car is warmed up. As for the visual, the less shiny, the better.

Also - make sure you're not tripping any CEL codes.

yeah i will be using a stock 05 sti uppipe so it definitely has a stock look.

I will just put the stock downpipe on so i can pass then swap it out afterwards.

do you typically trip a CEL from putting on a catless uppipe? is that common?

Stock WRX UP has an EGT sensor in it. Will trip codes if you don't either put a 2.2K ohm resistor in there or have it turned off in your ECU software.

Otherwise, STi UP is good and not likely to raise any eyebrows by a smog tech.

.... time for me to go into the smog guy too... only running one cat... the helix catted dp... lets see how that will go.

I hear that the newer subies (05+) had no cat in the up pipe anymore.

anyone go the the smog tech with injectors, and fuel pump etc? how did it go?
