Can any locals help with HD camera + Premiere Pro
I just got my new video HDR-SR12 Sony handycam. I'm trying to Capture my footage in Adobe Premiere Pro but I can't because the controls in the Capture window are all disabled. The Capture window says "Capture Device Offline" The camera is on and connected via the USB cord it comes with. I want to know if there's anyone who uses a video handycam and Adobe Premiere Pro.

maybe its the USB? did you try a firewire? or try plugging it in at a different time to trick Premiere.
The pro cameras at my school do this sometimes, so i just press buttons and it usually works. havent done it in a while though.
Id try getting another way to connect it.

dude,
since this is a NON tape device, you dont capture like the good ol days.
you connect via USB and it should show up as a volume and then you treat it like any other.
now, i havent looked at the manual for this guy, but if it's like another hard disk drive based (heck, like flash based) camcorders, then all you need is to "copy" the files over.
now, it could like the JVC HDD based cams i was looking at, that the files you bring over aint ready to be ingested by your PP.
the JVC model i was looking at, saved the files in a weird proprietary format and you need a JVC program to convert them over...
RTFM... RTFM.

^^^Yes, when I connect this cam the drive pops up on my desktop (I'm on a Mac) and when I open it to see the files inside, they're a weird proprietary format like you say. I'll take a screen shot and post it when I get home. I can't believe I can't find sh** on the net about this. It might be a firewire thing maybe, but I'll need to get one since the cam did not come with one. I also tried it with iMovie and nothing happens.
Yeah mine works fine, but it's DV tape and I just had to select the right driver. Seems like it "should be" simpler with a HD cam but they probably spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make sure it's not easy for some reason.
it's the oddest thing.
i checked out 2 diff other non linear tape cameras in the past 2 months.
both saved in their proprietary format.
meanwhile, i bought this POS camera (an aiptek that cost $130) that records on plain old MOV files... just connect via USB and files instantly available.

not for the pro world...
more and more setups are going to a non linear based format.
sony and their SxS and XDCAM (blu ray)... panasonic and their P2...
eventually, linear tape will be gone like VHS...
