Camber Adjustment Question

Hi folks,

I did a little searching around nasioc and i-club and I have not been able to find a decisive answer to camber adjustment on wagons.

There are camber bolts & camber plates.

As my re92 tires are nearing the end of their life (thank god), I want to run more meat and will have to put some negative camber in my suspension.

I know many of you have experience with this so help!

My exact question is: How much can the stock suspension be adjusted (for negative camber)?

Is there a benefit to running camber plates vs camber bolts?

Any hints or tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Matt

Camber plates are more adjustable and more precise. Some offer camber and caster adjustment.

Bolts are good for small adjustments but can slip.

I run bolts front and rear.

You can get pretty good camber from your stock suspension. Over -1.5 up front. You'll want bolts in the rear.

With bolts front and rear you should have no problems getting something like -2 plus up front and -1 plus in the rear. Very streetable.

Anything over that should be for track use in my opinion. But with this new "flush" movement a lot of people are running ridiculous camber settings for looks only. Stupid in my opinion.

What size tires and wheels are you planning to run?

Ride comfort is gonna go to **** if you go with the plates.

Thank you for your input! Yea....the hella flush thing is a little too crazy for me. I would like to fit some wide rubber though.

Really? Good to know.

I was considering running 235/40/17....or to be crazy 245/40/17. (245/40/17 is the closest to stock according to the miata.net calculator)

I know I will have to do rolling......no i will not try putting these on my stock 17x7 wheels.

I was able to find tires in 245/40/17 that are lighter than my stock re92's.

I dunno though.....

Matt... i have 18x8.5's with 235's on the wagon now. Rear camper is -1.7 and the front is at -1.3 without any camber bolts. Your gonna need a roll though with 235's. Im SUPER low, so of course i needed a roll but i think even with a baby drop 235's are gonna need a roll.

Currently I am SWIFT springs with oem struts & 22mm sways.

(I may swap out for Tokico D-spec's).

I will run in the range of a 17x8 wheel and 17x9 wheel (+48-42 offset).

No 18's for me.

You should have no problems running 235's on 17x8. No need for x9 wheels if all you want is 235 or 245. They'll fit x8 or x8.5 no problem. Unless of course you're trying to get a concave wheel and stretch a tire.

Bolts in the rear will do what you need. Front you should be fine stock. Might want to pick up a set anyways just in case for the front.

235's on a 17x8 with a +50-53 offset will fit with no rolling. Anything else you'll probably have to roll the back.

If you're gonna roll just get the 245's. I would... haaa.

Wider is better!

Yes I think 17x8.5 is the perfect fit for 245's.... 17x9 will look a little bling for me...
