Camaro vs. VF34 WRX
Camaro Z28 was launched on hard, left him by two car lenghts then he slowly crept past me until he was a car lenght in front of me and we stayed even at that point him still being a car lenght ahead. WTF!! I thought I would be faster. You guys think he ws modified?? Now I need more power....damn...I am only running a 2.5inch catback..maybe that has something to do with it and I have a catted downpipe. Hopefully with a JDM top mount and a 3" catback I should be faster, I hope.. He might of been spraying on me when we ran (NOS)...Who knows..
Disclaimer: This was not on a public road..it was a private road..so please don't flame me for posting this. Thanks....I just need some moral support after getting beat..You know how it is...

I atill thought that with my mods I could take him. Oh well. lesson learned...I need a front mount and 3" catback versus my2.5" and a retune then I should have him...I hope
I used to think Camaros and those F-body GM cars were pretty "crappy" and "slow" and "old technology" but after researching and getting more knowledge on the subject, those cars have a lot more power potential than our Imprezas. They start out with an outrageously larger displacement (late models are 5.7 LS1 "Corvette" engine) and power can be made relatively cheaper and easier. That's not to say an Impreza can't be pushed to the limits (talk to Ali Afshar about that point with his ESX dragster) as I made over 50 horsies to the wheels with simple bolt-ons and an ECU reflash. To make the same amount of horsepower with a Camaro, you need ECU reflash, exhaust, intake, which is the same as on my car. Then again, when the Camaro dude puts in a new cam and heads, he's making well over 400 horsepower at the wheels. Thank you pushrod.
I've ran my buddy's 96 z28 with headers, exhaust, cams, intake, throttle body, and chip when I was on the stock turbo just with all the bolt ons, I was able to take him all the way up to end of 3rd gear from both dead stop and from a 35 roll..

FWIW, on my Impala SS (which has the LT1 in it, albeit with different heads and cam than the Camaro) when I had the stock motor I was able to get 90 extra HP (at the rear wheels) out of it compared to bone stock by just doing ALL (and I mean ALL
) of the bolt-ons. Still the stock cam and no nitrous, but I went from 215 RWHP (stock) to 305 RWHP when fully modded. It also had 350 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels. The new motor in it should have, ummm, "considerably more"

Yeah Tommy, it really is a totally different animal. Those cars, and their Pontiac sisters, made post 98 are much quicker than even the horsepower numbers would lead you to believe. Take the the SS or WS6 versions, they are only rated at 320-330 bhp depending on who you ask, yet in the quarter they will faily easily keep pace with the 390 bhp '03 Cobra. With just heads and a cam, they are insanely quick. If you come across one with a Paxton bolted up, just go look the other direction and don't even bother.

It's really too bad the Camaro/Firebird were so ugly. If they had a bit more style (or less? lol), they could have sold a lot of those puppies.

if you add more to your mods...something equal to a...lets say...vishnu stage 2....you will kill those cars easy, but you need a good launch. At about 1/4 it should be close, he might even pass you.
If you want more top end to ensure you will beat him longer...go with something a bit bigger, vf22, pe1818, or something like that...then it will be hard for them to catch you. vf34 is nice, but doesnt have that great of a top end... like the other turbos. (add supporting mods too)
They can have changed gears and can launch very well....so be careful.
I have a friend that has done alot to his camerro, he should be in the 10's or low 11's.
have fun

ps. with my LAST setup...even a well modded WS6 only could stay at my front door. That was the closest anyone had ever kept up with me....not bad for either one of us.
