Nope but it took 10 seconds and it's worth a shot.

This petition doesn't stand a chance. The guy's argmuents are pathetic:

"First, eliminating the need for a front license plate will significantly reduce the state costs associated with production, storage, and shipping."

I doubt it would be a significant saving. I'm sure most of the money is in admin rather than fabrication of the plates.

"Second, a front license plate restricts the performance of passenger vehicles. Modern cars aren't being designed with front plates in mind anymore, because mounting brackets that are necessary to hold the plates interfere with the cars' aerodynamics"

Modern cars ARE designed with front license plates in mind. Most countries mandate a front plate - all of the EU for example. The CAI on most cars is behind the bumpers or tucked away low down. I'd love to see figures, but I bet the impact on, say, 0-60 is measured in the ten thousandths of a second.

"and often get damaged during the car-washing process."

Clutching at straws... If car washing difficulty is one of his arguments, this petition doesn't have a prayer.

"Third, unnecessary damage is sustained from minor bumper-to-bumper collisions, because the front mounting brackets on passenger cars can cause cracks and abrasions to the rear bumpers of the cars that they hit."

Many brackets are under bumper - or behind the bumper line. There are a variety of other impact issues that would be higher on the list (tow brackets, bicycle carriers, external rear spare tires etc.

"Finally, police officers will be more productive in stopping dangerous motor vehicle violations such as drunk driving, reckless driving, speeding, etc., because their time won't be compromised by a California motorist who simply didn't have a front license plate on display."

One of the reasons for front plate enforcement is for red light camera operation. These take a photo of the front plate. Red light running is a significant safety issue, and, anything which helps enforce this is beneficial.

+ there is the revenue generated from front plate tix

The BEST argument for getting rid of front plates is that they look crap and spoil the appearance of the car - particularly sports cars. Unfortunately, this isn't a good enough reason for scrapping them.

I agree that there's no harm trying - and it only takes a couple of seconds.

It just always seems funny when people find a bunch of reasons to justify what they want to do. For example, the petition is focused on deleting the front plate which I think is primarily an aethetic issue - there aren't any solid arguments other than appearance.

On the bike forums, there is always this "Loud pipes save lives" idea of why exhaust dB levels shouldn't be enforced. The real reason is that people love the sound that their bike makes - nothing wrong with that, its just that others might not agree. They claim it is for safety, yet these same guys wear all black because it looks cool. If they were really worried about safety, they'd wear a dorky flourescent jacket

Sorry all, I'm feel irascible today - dunno why
