Calif. Assembly Bill Would Legalize, Tax Marijuana
So what were you even trying to say in your original post? Alcohol is legal and not checked for during drug tests yet you still arent allowed to come to work drunk. It would be the same way with weed. I really dont get what you were tyring to say in your first post.

Take it at face value if you will:
"I wouldn't want to work with someone who is going to show up to work under the influence of ANYTHING."
Doesn't matter if it's legal or not

won't work. even if it goes by the feds (which it won't). but the #1 reason it won't work has nothing to do with politics. it has to do with the ease of cutting out the state 'middleman.' it would go something like this...
step 1: legalize it
step 2: tax it
step 3 distribute it and collect taxes
there would surely be a brief period where everyone and their momma will go to 7/11 and buy some, if only for the novelty of it. and the govt. would collect a pretty quick windfall of taxes on this initial rush.
however, it will inevitably lead to...
step 4. grow your own.
people will soon ask themselves..."why pay for taxed weed when you can grow it in your own backyard, apt, garden, ect."
too difficult you say? its really not...why do you think they call it weed? its a fricken weed! meaning it will grow anywhere! just like tobacco, except unlike tobacco, you don't have to go through the laborious process of fermenting it before you smoke it. its grow, dry, smoke, repeat! the only reason more people don't grow it now is because it is illegal. but i guarantee you, as soon as they legalize it, weed chia-pets will be in every household.
so no money for the state = no legalization.

"I wonder how employment drug tests are going to be performed if they do legalize this stuff?"
???
And you still arent getting it. You arent allowed to come to work under the influence. Period. You get fired for it. So i dont get why you think legalizing weed would make this more likely to happen.

I think you folks are confused about my position on this subject.
I'm neither opposed nor for this, rather indifferent.
The drug testing procedure in question is like the "felony" question on an application.
It doesn't necessarily disqualify you but rather puts a kind of "special" highlight on your application that any employer will look at--including going through a background check to make sure you don't lie on your application.
Think of it as a smudge on your record, so I'm sure if MJ DOES get legalized---they can't automatically disqualify you for using it---even though it'll probably show up on the drug test---it's best to have the test come back clean and have no "smudges" so to speak
so I'm just wondering if they will even look for it or will they just test for the other things that aren't legal

During the summer season yea. And I hear ya. It's happened to a couple people I know. They were just doing it for themselves, only a couple of plants. If it were legalized there wouldn't be such a criminal attraction.

"I dont want to sound judgemental, but IMHO I wouldn't want to work with someone who is going to show up to work under the influence of ANYTHING.
Think of all the bad things that can happen to you depending on what type of job you perform.
Machinery/construction and legal MJ...ALL BAD "
What was the point of this? This really has nothing to do with the topic of weed being legalized. Also i dont see how machinery + legal MJ = all bad since you arent allowed to come work under the influence regardless of it being legal or not.
Since when has california had seasons?
Health effects are obviously going to affect both, but the health affects of weed is less just due to the amount of each smoked. I dont think you can say a person who smokes weed smokes as much as someone who smokes cigarettes because the effects of weed last longer than nicotine lasts (seconds even).
To me in the end I would rather have people smoking weed than smoking cigarettes, less people would get lung cancer, etc. In addition, there are no aggressive behaviors associated while under the influence of marijuana when compared to a legal substance such as alcohol.

growing weed indoors isnt so bad, it smells if you dont have ventilation but the quality, its good enough and there are things out there to grow it much quicker.
maybe they'll say only ones with permit and grow weed. oaksterdam in oakland? school to learn about/grow weed. in the late 1800's, it was manditory for anyone with farm land to grow weed, it was used for everything, ropes, textile, paper, etc. it was made illegal by people with money and influence who saw mj as competition and racism.
still, weed smokers are minority and i will be very, very suprised if it does pass...yet happy, no more $45 for 8th?
maybe $25...muahahah

An 8th at the club cost 50-$60 depending on the quality. I dont think legalizing weed is gonna make it any cheaper.

All I'm saying is that one should be consciously aware and accountable of their smoking habits.
