cab pulled over - do i pay?
cab pulled over - do i pay?
Okay,
Last night I took a cab with some friends of mine in SF. The dude was driving like a maniac! Worse than the usual too. Passing in the bike lane, 65 mph down mission street. I'm thinking we should get out. Finally he completely cuts off a car while making a left turn then runs a stop sign 1/2 block later. Sure enough a cop pulls him over. After a hilarious exchange of non-english with the cop we decide to get out and walk the rest of the way. Feeling like I should pay him ($6) I hand him a 20 and he says he has no change! Finally we scrounge $6 together pay him and leave him sitting on the side of the road getting his (deserved) tickets. The question is, did I have to pay him? Seems like if hes driving bad enough to get pulled over that should nullify the contract or something. What do you guys think?

Yes, because he provided the service - he got you somewhere. If you didn't like it/wanted him to stop, you could have told him to stop. You didn't so you owe the fare....
IMHO, of course.

I worked in SF for over 7 years. Been there done that.
My opinion. HELL NO!.
I would have got out and walked away. **** that guy. Those guys drive around like crazy people all the damn time. I came literally an inch from getting killed by one of those *** hats. Dude came through a blind area at WELL over 60, probably close to 90 and I had to jump back to keep from getting slammed. I felt the car. If you would have told him you were in a hurry and to get on it then yeah...pay up.

Well the cop was right there to assist him in the matter if you tried to stiff him either way you were going to pay, if he was driving slower the bill would have been alot more then 6 bucks trust me.
