Looks like an XV to me. That really sucks for all of the people who went into the water because of that, but at least nobody killed.

Yeah, but even a hit from a semi still meant the bridge wasn't safe. IMO, if semis are on it, it should be able to handle a hit from one.

Most definitely. There are 1000's of bridges that are not up to snuff with safety... just waiting to fall. This guy just found the straw that broke the back...

Washington bridge collapse caused by truck hitting span, authorities say | Fox News
The bridge was built in in 1955 and had a sufficiency rating of 47 out of 100 at its November 2012 inspection, Transportation Department spokesman Noel Brady said Friday. Washington state was given a C in the American Society of Civil Engineers' 2013 infrastructure report card and a C- when it came to the state's bridges. The group said more than a quarter of Washington's 7,840 bridges are considered structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.

I watched a science show/documentary about the state of bridges in the US and its scary how many of them have low ratings from civil engineers...almost made me not want to drive over any bridges anymore haha

But it's like that everywhere. Buildings, bridges, walk ways, etc.
My cousin used to work in seismic reconstruction so things would pass code. He said you'd die if you saw some of the crap he had to fix. Like the main support I beam welds being cracked 80% of the way through. Etc.
