I have hayes 6 inch mechanics on my bike. They are ok. But on my next bike...I'm upgrading the front.
As for the comment on brake fade. It's actually a really big problem on some down hill courses. Before discs were popular I ran the kamakaize downhill and damn near killed myself cause I baked my pads.
Personally...for the average and even most of the above average riders, the brembos are over kill. Price estimates are $1000 state side. They are directed at folks that race, race teams, and those guys that have a car for every occassion and doesn't use em'.

I think they'll be good...but overpriced. 1st gen Shimano discs are SWEET...I don't like Hayes at all (I've had 4 friend who've had them and ALL 4 need to rebleed them all the time...and no, they're aren't retards, they all are mechanics at great bike shops...it's the brake's fault). The Shimanos I have are super low maintainence, easily modulated (because of the two diameters of pistons), and never fade even on the Karpiel trail up at Northstar.

i had some 6" hayes on my old bike and i had then on there for 3 years going to Northstar and riding all the Dh trails there i never had to replace the pads and only had to rebleed once. Now i havea full on Dh bike with 8" hayes and they are frieken awsome.
