yeah, the six pot AP racing calipers do look good. but i have two questions, do they even make a rear brake kit for the WRX? is that brake system specifically designed for the WRX, including the correct front to rear bias?

that M2 4 wheel brake system looks like it's going to be VERY hard to beat. 107 feet 60 to 0? that's some serious deceleration.

60 - 0 time isn't really about what calipers you use. It mostly depends on what tires and pads you have.

Regarding AP racing, and rear brakes. You know your braking is something like 90% front, and 10% rear? The M2 kit it way overkill in the rear!

of course i know that, but you can't argue with facts. 107 ft is far shorter than i've seen for any wrx brake kit. do you know any one who actually has the AP 6 pots?

and if it was so easy to get shorter 60-0 distances, why wouldn't everyone just use good pads and tires. and strong calipers DO have a lot to do with the feel of the brakes as i'm sure you well know. the extra size of the rear setup on the M2 kit serves one large purpose. ensuring that the rears NEVER fade. ever. does it add some unsprung weight? yeah.

All I know, is that my COBB's (more expensive stoptech's) saved my bacon tonight. A cop car decided to go accross the intersection with people going through....we all had to slam on da brakes. My COBB's stoped perfectly. Close, but didnt hit

screw that, you should have sped up and had the stupid pork product t-bone you. i love it when cops perform 2 fast 2 furious manuevers and then crap their pants crying about it when they catch other idiots doing the exact same dangerous chit. no i am not advocating street racing or driving like an idiot i am just in a bad effing mood and i want to kill something.

and you know what would make this just perfect is if i got a call tomorrow saying that SOA is too goddam stingy to do the clutch TSB on my car because i have an uppipe. i can just see it now. your aftermarket modifications have applied enough additional force to the flywheel and clutch disc to make them chatter only when the car is cold like every other WRX in the world does. except they don't have any mods. yeah. god i can't freaking wait. and you want to know what else is gonna be great? the fact that i get to pay for the diagnosis that SOA is too stingy to pay for their own mistakes. should be a cool two or three hundred out of my pocket. then, my tranny should snap in half and my clutch should fry on the same day forcing me to rent a car for two months while i get the whole thing sorted out. then, about seven grand later, i have my car back and i want to kill even more things because i'm so pissed off. how's that for a positive outlook on life?!?!?!

Although big brakes do help with initial stopping, you will NOT see a significant difference with Brembo's, Stop Tech's, AP's, or even the Subaru 4 pots. When doing short stopping, all of the prior listed calipers are strong as hell, and will stop the car without an issues. 2 major factors with short distance braking are tires, and pads. Simple as that.

Big breaks however (slotted, crossdrilled, etc) are great for road racing however.

Brucelee,

I forgot to mention that I was able to use them again all night...hahahaha. They are not like stock...1 time use only!!

But you are saying that they are all pretty much the same...right??
Because I agree with your above statement.

Steppin Razor,
Thats ok man...let it all out!!!I understand
I hope your warranty issue gets fixed......keep us posted.
(cause if it doesnt, I want to stay off the streets )

A few engineers and I were talking and...

I think a lot of people posting here get brakes that are TOO big for their application. Your brakes don't have to be ICE cold to work great but they can't be TOO hot either. Bottom line if you're going 120mph and hit the brakes hard you're friction in the rubber of your tires does a lot of the work along with suspension etc. which isn't going to make you stop faster with a 13" disc. compared to a 11" disc. Even when going down a steep hill... your brakes will get hot regardless so go for a slotted disc at a decent size to vent the heat a bit.

So a 'happy-medium' should be best.

Sure the brembos etc. look good but a decent Stage one kit (ie cobb would be fine for weekend warrior/daily driving purposes)

I haven't done anything yet. BUT WANT EVERYONES INPUT.
on what i want to do.

-Better Fluid (don't know what kind yet)
-Goodridge Stainless Steel lines
-Porterfield pads
-front and rear cyro/slotted discs
anyone heard of: http://www.spdusa.com/brakes1.htm

thanks eric.

Brakes are one of the first things I got because I knew I wanted high HP applications. They were great at Thunderhill, and my friend uses his all the time up and down Hwy 9. If we had stock brakes...we would be in trouble. You use the stock 1 time, reallly hard, and they are done!!

Yes I agree with getting the slotted to vent the heat. Thats why I went with COBB (expensive Stoptech's ).
