I have found the stock BOV to work great with my set up, and it was designed to work with the car.

There was a time when I was running an after market intake and it gives you the cool Woosh sound so if thats what you desire I reccomend getting intake as stated above.

Stock VF39= stock BPV
Small upgrade or higher boost on stock turbo= crush the BPV
Big turbo= aftermarket BOV

Those are the needs and recommendations for BPV & BOV. But, if you like the sounds of a BOV and want to run it on the stock VF39 w/ stock boost levels then do it! I don't blame you, I love them. I miss my HKS BOV. Just make sure to get a tune.

Found this, lots of good info. My car is not stock. To me, the stock bpv sounds a bit sloppy

What do you mean "sounds sloppy"? On a well running car you pretty much can't hear it.

Ive found the gfb hybrid bov to work real well. Doesnt make my car run rich like with the HKS plus it doesnt have the girlie whistle. Its got a legit pssssht.

Bad news is they are very expensive.

just get it,

dont let these people convince you that is not a good idea, having a loud BOV is really fun, i tried about 3-4 different brands, i love all of them

Subaru community is always afraid to trying something out of the ordinary, and tend to stick to " what has been done before "

like when i first ran a Manual Boost Controller on my car 4-5 years ago, i got flamed by alot of people, but now look everyone recommends them lol,

or like when i first attempted to run the stock VF39 over 20psi, i got flamed for that too because " on paper the vf39 will not make anymore power over 18psi " lol

Honestly, it is more about not fixing what isn't broken. But yeah, if you want a BOV, it is your car. What everyone else thinks doesn't matter.

Who wants to have a pissing contest?! I really want to have a pissing contest!!!

OP, I would ask whoever your tuner is for the advice, be it to get on or not even. When you go on a mass viewed forum you will get 1001 opinions. Which sometimes is a bit much. Do what YOU want, but consult a tuner (EQ, DB, LIC, etc) just to double check to make sure you don't hurt your Subie.

you sir are correct... the hybrid is 50/50 50% recirculates and 50% dumps...

BUY MINE! it's a GFB STEALTH FX which is fully adjustable from 100% recirculating (like stock) to 100% atmospheric and u can adjust the spring load as well. had it on for maybe 5-10k back in 04 then swapped it out for an hks ssqv cuzz i liked the distinct whistle. been in box since w/ beauty bolts! you can even order another horn/trumpet to make it whistle like an hks online.

then how is aftermarket support for our cars going to grow if everyone is afraid to change " what is isn't broken " ?

arn't we all going for some kinda performance improvement right?

so why not take a chance

Because taking a chance is exactly that - it may help or it may hurt. Do it right (talk to a tuner) or don't do it.

Aftermarket support for these cars is already good, but as they age, it isn't likely to GROW. Manufacturers normally move on to current models.

If you want sound, then seriously pick what you like. You get negative performance from having it 50/50 or full air unless you are pushing a lot of HP, like 350/400+. Stock works fine until then.

But if you just want the *vvvvrrrrroooooommmmmm* *WHOOSH* stuff, then go with the one you like the best.
