Smile Bought a Glock 23

So I finally bought myself a handgun. As stated in the title I went ahead and purchased a new third gen Glock 23. This is my first handgun and I made the decision to purchase it after shooting my cousin's second gen 23. This is going to be just a range gun for now as I'm in the market for a .44 mag as well. The more power the better, right? : ) Anyway, I get to pick it up on the 13th.

Question, what kind of ammo should I use at the range? I went to walmart and bought a box of the winchester whitebox 165 range ammo to plink around with. At $16 for 100 rounds it sounded like a good deal. What do the other shooters around here use?

Just wanted to share,

Bill

They sell ammo at walmart? Dang.

Glock is a good gun. One of the best there is.

But, personally, I prefer heavy guns. Like 44 Mag or Deagle. I always wear a glove shooting those, otherwise it turnes the palms of my hands in a bloody mess. I love it.

What kind of ammo do you use with the .44 mag? The only experience I've had has been shooting +p+.

I've already started looking into either a .44 mag or a .357 mag. For some reason I want a revolver now. It's kind of wierd, I've spent my whole life shooting a 12 guage and I have a little taste of handguns and now I'm hooked.

Congratulations on your purchase!

For target use in my Walther P99 .40, I use PMC and Fiocchi. I also got a real good deal one time on 500rds of Speer Gold Dot self-defense ammo, so I shot it all at the range one day, it shot real well and was super accurate.

I've heard that the Winchester white box and the Black Hills reloaded ammo is good for target use.

Your Glock has a 4" barrel. so you can use 155-180g. ammo, fyi the Fiocchi is 170g truncated FMJ, and its has a fairly hot charge.

For self-defense I recommend either the Speer 165gn Gold Dot JHPs, or the Winchwster SXTs.

Does the frame bite the web of your thumb?

I'm considering buying a Glock 20 in the future.

Where do you shoot in the Sonoma area?

David

Glock is the AK-47 of the pistol world.

My next gun will be the Springfield XD. Its based off a Croatian gun... Basically a 1911 style glock. Its cheap too.

Don't use PMC for target ammo. That stuff sucks, makes your gun dirty as hell. They must use some really crappy powder cuz it does not burn clean at all. Stick with Speer Lawman TMJ 180gr ammo if you practice with .40cal. But its best to practice with the same weight ammo you use for defense. I use Remington Golden Sabre 155gr or Cor Bon 155gr in my .40cal SIG P226 for defense.

whaddaya mean BASED off croatian gun... IT IS a croatian gun...

springfield just made it americanized with the name. otherwise, its an HS 2000, plain and simple. but it's closer to a sig/glock design than that of the 1911...

if you want an oddball ammo, get the XD in .45 GAP...

fired a friend's 9mm Xd last year. it was okay... i guess i get spoiled by my SIGs...

haha, I know it is... Just not called an HS 2000... But yeah, Ive shot them before and they are really nice. Sigs are fine pistols, i like them A LOT.. Especially the P220, and P229 (.40)... But they are expensive as hell, and not as reliable as glocks... but they are easier to shoot (I can hit targets way easier with the sigs)

some of weirdest looks i ever received at wallyworld was when they had this "silent" sale of white box winchester 9mm.

i literally had a cart load of them through the UC store...

this old lady asked me what they were. i said bullets.

her face turned white and looked liked i just said, "i'm a terrorist" or something. she then scooted her cart and her family away from me as fast as she could...

hee hee hee... got a serbu lower and then got a DPMS single shot AR lower that will be reg'ed as a .50 lower.

i was sweating bullets (pun intended) as i found out that mark serbu forgot to ship my lower!!!! dec 27, i started my DROS and said he (my FFL) hasnt received it yet. so i call serbu (he's in florida) and on tuesday, he calls me back saying he just shipped it. remember, dec 31 is the last day.

on dec 31st, i drove to placerville to start another DROS for the DPMS lower...

i get a call later that day that my serbu arrived and so far... so good. whew....

i'll know in 10 days (well less than a week now) if all the paperwork goes through.

i wanna build up the serbu first. he has a semi auto, mag fed version -- think barrett M82A rifle -- as the rifle i want to get. his "universal" receivers can be built into 3-4 diff models...

there are a few companies that makes AR .50 cal uppers so that is put as a backup plan...

so hopefully this summer, as time and money allows, i'll be sending this down the range:
