go to places like panoche hills, where it's federal land where you can shoot until your fingers hurt...

just follow the rules. no range ***** to tell you to slow down.

To be fair, all of my mausers, K-31, M1, and sks's all use "clips" in the form of striper clips.

Ive always thought the wording of clip/magazine to be silly. We all know the difference, we all know what is being said. If someone says clip rather than mag, I don't see the big deal. In the end those of us in the know, do get what is being said.

in that case, a clip loads ammo into an internal magazine.

and that's what the mausers, SKSs, etc have...

rifles like the ARs uses an external magazine. you can still use a a stripper clip on those mags too.

I work for the Army in their video game development sector, and in our meetings EVERYONE calls the mags (magazines) "clips". It irks the hell out of me and I have started correcting them every chance I get regadless of who is saying it, I think its kinda embarrassing to have Army folks calling magazines "clips", dontcha think?
Why would they know the difference? Does someone that works int he video game development sector have formal military training?

That would render the rifle illegal.

Well, 80% of the folks that work there are heavily into guns. Everyone there knows their guns because of the game... Everyone should know that its called a magazine and not a clip... You don't need military training to know that! If you own a gun you should automatically know that its a magazine, unless of course it really is a clip.

A magazine is the piece that actually holds the bullets and feeds them into the chamber.

A clip is used to load a magazine.

Clip is on the left, magazine is on the right.

And one more:

I'm moving to Virginia in a couple of months. Would it be illegal there also or just in CA?

Ive seen people at the ranges with full auto MP5s, etc. As long as you have a semi auto gun, the range masters dont give a flying f' what you shoot, they aren't the police. If you are a cop you can pretty much shoot anything, full auto included. People with class 3 lic can as well.
ill buy ammo and we go shoot!

Hell yeah! I have all these guns but I can't afford to shoot them So the deal I make is I'll bring whatever guns you want me to bring, and you bring the ammo. That way you get to shoot guns you can't even rent if you wanted to, and you get to shoot them for free! (minus the ammo). So it's a win-win situation.

I'm down Igor, idemo!
