Blueish smoke from tailpipe on Jasper Reman V8
I've read that it can take a couple hundred miles for the rings to seat and seal. That true?
Day 1 this thing ate 1 quart. The engine, LC9, was replaced to due to head gasket issues, and 152k miles on it.
It always gives out a decent plume at start up, which is gone in 5-6 seconds.
Sometimes it gives out some smoke from a stop, usually not, so it comes and goes.
Mechanic used 5w Synthetic, I put in 20w-50 Castrol GTX Dino. Really, really hope this stops with time, but who's actually seen that happen?
I know Justin said in a another thread these engines with Active Fuel Management (Cylinder Deactivation) are notorious for burning oil, and the previous didn't do this, but this one does, and so far, way too much.

I think most of the burning is due to build up on the valves of oil vapor due to the deactivation. From what I've been reading. But I've also seen it's been hit and miss. A lot of guys have been running a catch can and they are noticing quite a bit of vapor settling in there between oil changes. Some guys have had no problems what so ever with no catch cans and no AFM disabling device.
On a fresh reman, I would think it should not be burning that much oil. Did you get a limited warranty on that engine?

It's just that so many v8 guys say it takes hundreds of miles and you can experience blue smoke in that time frame.
Since it comes and goes, if i was a totally busted ring, it would likely be smoking all the time right? It's inconsistency is promising, to me, but who knows.

I find it hard to believe a reman'd motor would take 100's of miles to settle and seat and stop burning though. But yea, the intermittency does sound promising.

I shouldn't rush it back I think. I should try to put some miles on it and see how it goes.
I will, however, pull the plugs this weekend and see which cylinders are affected by this.
This particular one might suck, but I am sure there are other brands ($nap on makes one) and maybe someone rents one: Digital Inspection Camera
Hoping for you that it's something simple like maybe a hose in the wrong place allowing oil intermittently into the intake or something.
