blown shock? how do I know?

few weeks ago I started to notice that I would rub a bit on my rear left (driver side). then yesterday when I was washing the car, I notice the left rear is sitting a bit lower than the right.

however, here is the tricky part, i did get rear ended about 1.5 years ago on the rear right (passenger side). but I don't recall any rubbing or height difference between the two sides back then after the repair...

and

is there an easier way? I won't be able to (time) do this myself. So if it's really blown. I might just well save the labor and get some new suspensions in.

haha, my ghetto way to do it, would be push down on the car and see how much it bounces up and down vs the other side. Since it's stock suspension, it should be pretty soft, so it should push down pretty easily.

alright... I can give that a try... damn this sucks!

is there any immediate danger driving around with a blown shock? I know I can easily replace that with some KYB AGX shocks for $600 + labor from Speed Element or something. But I always hated my KYB GR2 + P1 spring setup. I would love to double that $600 and move into some decent coilover...

I guess you can do it like STIownsEvo. If you know its time for new suspension then do it. Even if it jus stock replacement.

Man, this set of suspension has only been on the car for 4 years or so... is that pretty much the life expectancy of KYB GR2?

I normally would not hesitate to replace them. But I am kind of tight on budget right now (saving money for the wedding).

So is there any immediate danger in driving around with a potentially blown shock? It feels fine, I don't track (not anymore), and it's just a daily drive now.

No danger in the blown shock ride quality and handling is going to suck, I guess theres the danger lol.

I think I'm going to get some AGXs in a couple months =\ Yah tell me about it double that and get an entry level coilover, I wish...

I'd just say, get some Koni Yellows for the rear right now. At the softest setting, they're very similar to stock and they have a lifetime warranty. So they should last longer than the KYBs, plus they're rebuildable in the US.

Also, with this way, you can slowly build up to a similar coilover system, by getting some Ground Control springs, and if you want, camber plates. Since it's a step by step process, it allows you the flexibility to buy as you have the money instead of one lump sum.

just keep saving... entry level coilover is the way to go I say. I went from stock to GR2 and I am NOT Happy with the setting. Hell I couldn't even go to 225 on my stupid tires because it was rubbing the struts in the rear!

I just used the 'ghetto' method to test the strut out. They both feel the same and tire wear is the same on all four. I’ll check for oil leak tonight. Also measured the ride height with my super accurate umbrella and noticed a ~1/4 inch difference with left side lower.
