Blew tire and wrecked

So on friday after work, I am driving home and taking the turn to go home on HWY 113 North, when suddenly i blew my rear driver side tire. I end up going off the road and into a bunch of trees, wrecking the passenger side, folding under the rear passenger tire, just as the maing, damage, not to mention everything underneath and the exhaust. I was running Yoko Parada Spec-II tires. I was not speeding. How do i proceed from here, how can i get yoko to do something for me?, etc.

You have your insurance company fix the car.

Unless you can prove beyond a doubt that your tires had a manuf. defect, Yokohama won't do a thing for you. And to be honest, it seems like the case here could be driver error following the blow out - if in fact you were not speeding, a blow out shouldn't cause you to lose control like that and wreck. Did you jamm the brakes or lift off the gas hard while mid-corner after the blowout? My roomate blew the passenger rear tire on his WRX a few weeks ago while traveling on the freeway and didn't wreck his car.

Good luck with getting the car repaired. Hopefully it's good as new when you get it back.

I did not hit the brakes until I was about to go off the road. There was no chance for recovery. Besides, that I was turning right in the outside lane. Took me by total suprise listening to the Niner game. Since I am a Raider fan, next time i should tell the Niners to f*ck themselves, LOL. Anyways, I am ok and that is all that matters. Cars are replaceable, but people are not. But Yokohama should take some repsonsibity for almost getting me killed.

It's not necessarily Yoko's fault, though. You could have hit a scrap of metal. Your valve stem could have been torn, and blown out, causing rapid deflation, etc.

Did you back off the road? If you were turning right, and lost the driver's rear, I'd expect the car to pull a 180, if anything; how hard were you turning?

I did do a 180, then hit a bunch of trees. I was not turing that hard at all. posted is 50 mph and i was doing a little over that, 55, mabee 60, but not even that.

Sucks, man. Seriously, though, I'd go through insurance. Yoko's got way more lawyers than you, and there's tons of stuff they can point to; going faster than the posted speed, question your tire pressure, etc, etc, etc. How fragged is the tire? Can you see what made it blow out? Have you done any high-speed runs on them? How worn were they, and what size were they?

i don't understand how you cna wreck with a blow out. i have had blowouts happen a few times to me and always while i was traveling over 65mph and never had a problem with a loss of control at all with the car.

sucks to hear what happened though. only option is gonna be insurance.

did you slam the brakes when you had a blow out?

Thats the only way to wreck when having a flat tire...

I did hit the brakes, but just as i was headed off the road, already in a sideways slide. There was no way to control it. Tires were 215/40/18, spec-II parada. tire pressures were good, in the higher 30's. Tread was getting low, but nowhere near bald. dont forget, i was in a turn when the tire blew, and came off the rim as soon as i was on the dirt. And the tire separated into three pieces, the two sideways, and the middle belted radial.

That's what insurance is for...
Attempting to prove any liability Yokohama should bear is going to be a frustrating battle.

Besides, this probably happened to you because you're a Raider's fan...j/k!

are we talking about the 80 to 113 transition right near UCD? if so, that would explain the loss of control.

for those who don't know, that turn, even if taken at 65mph, is a constant 45 degree turn. if one of the tires blow, i can see how it might be possible to lose control of the car.

i do agree though...have your insurance cover it. it's likely that it will be covered under collision, but that also means higher insurance premiums as a result of this incident.

plain and simple what yoko will say is prove that ur tires were within specification which i mean right air pressure and so forth. which is all a hassle, sorry for the misfortune it happens to all good people. plus insurance may pay for new tires, so u can get some nice bridgestones now

Yea, that turn near UCD, goes around the campus, pretty much.
I know going up against Yoko is gonna be nearly impossible. I'm not dumb. But i would like them to "donate" a new set of tires, to prove they stand behind their product.

I have already reported it to insurance. We'll see what happens. But I know I won't feel safe in this car again, if repaired. I would rather get another rex or mabee I can swing a wingless STi. Other comments or helpful insight would be appreciated.

hire the dude in the scca magazine who does crash investigations. Then he'll tell you that some guy on the overpass shot at you

Seriously though unless you hire someone and are prepared for a long fight, you won't get anything from yoko
