Black FD3S with V8

The past 2 days Ive pulled up next to a black FD3S with clear mods of a Greddy exhaust (probably Evo2 or something), lowered most likely on coilovers (pretty low and camber), concave 5Zigen FN01-Cs in silver with stretched tires and a Greddy gold 6-Pot BBK up front. I also noticed some gauges installed which made me think maybe this guy actually had some stuff under the hood, unlike most RX7s Ive seen on the streets. So my guess was this was a regular twin/single turbo FD. Boy was I wrong!! I didnt race him or anything but when the light turned green and he revv'd it up a bit, pure V8 was all I heard not to mention a whine that couldve been either a supercharger or turbo. My first thought was LS1, but the motor sounded really really smooth but mean as hell. Now IDK too much about built LS1s or how they would sound, but I know LS1s are becoming more popular in RX7 swaps so that motor would be my first guess. Oh yeah, I was in San Leandro/San Lorenzo both times I seen this car.

Has anyone else seen or even know the owner or anything about this car??

I finally gotta camera phone so next time I run into him, Ill try to snap some pics or even getting some info out of him. He definetly doesnt have a problem showing off the power the car has, so I think I can get info out of him

The whine you heard could have just been the transmission.

Blasphemy to many 7 owners but I think its pretty sweet.

I remember meeting a guy at an RX7 meet that had a GN motor in an FC and was at the time working on an LS1 FD IIRC.

I thought straight cut gears made whines like that, and I thought those only came in race transmissions...

Personally I think the engine swap thing is blasphemy, but I can see why it's appealling.

ever try living with a modded turbo rotary? If swaping that POS out for a real motor that makes power and is actually reliable is blasphemy then just call me an atheist
