I have actually been planning out a ride to work at least once a week. The issue is that it is about 20 miles one way. Should be a good workout though.

I walk to work every day...even in the rain. It only a 1/4 mile, so it doesn't make sense to get in either of my vehicles and pull out of the driveway...then down a few blocks...then try to find parking. Besides, I have a nice short morning walk...sip some coffee, and I am ready to work. That's the reason my '05 has just over 13k on it. I wish more people would either walk, bike or car pool...because when I want to drive my car...traffic limits me to nothing over 2nd gear! Even when I do manage to make it to the freeway =(

I've been doing it everyday for 4 weeks since my car is in the shop. I've been staying at my buddy's house in concord its 8 miles each way to my work. Its not bad at all.

I already have my routine down. I wake up and head to Starbucks about 15 minutes early and grab a coffee, by the time Im done I have a nice caffeine buzz and Im nice and warm and I hop on the canal trails all the way to work. My road bike makes it real easy to get there, its super fast its nice not riding on the roads. Not to mention its a free 30 minute workout each way.

Oh some awesome lessons learned that I have gotten in these 4 weeks.

One get a headlight and rear blinky light. I've had to stay late at work a couple times and riding in the complete darkness is pretty scary, you don't know what your gonna run over. Also the blinky lights let folks see you who are normally oblivious.

Two, get some padded bike shorts from REI. My butt was not ready for the ride at all so some nice padded boxers (that go under your pants or shorts so you dont have that gay biker look) really help out.

Three, a bike tire repair kit. I got a flat one day on the way to work and I had no pump or anything so I was late, and thats no bueno. I spare tube and pump is so small it will fit under your seat so have this (and the know how to change the tube if needed).
