the X trick apparently puts pressure into the bite, and its supposed to stop the itching. its something my psycho ex-girlfriend taught me......

you take your fingernail, and press into the top of the bite, right across the center. almost as if youre trying to cut it in half with your nail. then you do it again, crossing the first line.

Did you take any pictures of the bite? If they're not treated they can be nasty, google image search recluse spider bites.

sure it was a recluse? From what I recall, the poison is supposed to kill cells one by one and they only live in very undisturbed places. So definately shake out any sleeping bags, etc that you haven't used in a while because there's probably atleast 1-2 bugs living in there.

And if ever i was not bitten at home, it may be at the gym (fremont) or at work in Hayward, which i doubt. Basically, its in the bay area.
FREMONT?!?! WTF!! That's where I live.

I saw a spider the other day when I opened my microwave...scared the crap out of me. Slammed the door and turned it on High for 5 minutes. Made sure it was dead before picking it up...Didn't want to be the next Spidey :-)

don't spiders have exoskeletons which makes microwave useless?

A friend was bitten in Santa Cruz like 7 years ago, nice hospital visit and a couple weeks recovery.
They can live just about anywhere these days it seems, but they are too small to really do a study and find them. Someone should take all the bite data and extrapolate their current range, I bet it covers about the whole US.
At least you'll know if you are bitten pretty quick and medical treatment is possible.

hmm i agree... are you sure it was a brown recluse.. they really aren't found here, and are normally the size of a $.25.. Brown Recluses have no anti-venom for them period.. it's the "Well atleast you get to lie in a bed while we all hope you don't die" spider, and normally leave craters in your arm where ever they bit you...

sounds more like a black widow bite then a Brown Recluse to me... but i'm not a spider expert
