Best way to clean rims with dirt caked on?
Hey guys,
I bought some used wheels a few months back on craigslist that were a bit dirty. This morning, I went to clean the wheels and there is some dirt/grime that is caked on too solid for a regular brush and car soap to get off.
I'm thinking I might try a steel wool scrubber with some degreaser-type cleaner next. Anybody have the same experience and/or recommendations on cleaning methods or products to buy?
Thanks!

Maybe get a wire brush? It also depends on the finish of your wheels. If it's oem without nice paint on it, those are durable and a wire brush will help.
Let it soak in wheel cleaner either way.
A magic eraser can scratch paint if you go too hard at it, you would have to be careful. A magic eraser would be comparable to something like 2000 sandpaper imo

A wire brush will also definitely scratch your finish, moreso than the magic eraser IMO. A nylon brush or even a dish sponge should work, and try the magic eraser on a less visible area first.

This. Except magic erasers for me isn't that harsh. I tried using a dish sponge (scotch bright) and I had no results on my brothers car so I literally made a bath of sonax/water and worked my way with the eraser
