Question Bay area road rallies?

So I want to get into doing some road rallies since I've heard they can be pretty fun. Anyone on here have experience doing them or know of some good ones around the bay area? I tried doing some searching and didn't come up with anything.

Damn it I had a whole long reply with links that just disappeared....

a couple of places to look into (and check regularly in case a rally gets added):

not exactly local...

...but lots of fun for sure:

"On April 16, TOTAL RECALL will run from Buttonwillow (in the central valley at the I-5 and CA 58 interchange) and finish in San Luis Obispo. This will be an 8 hour rally, and it will be FREE to any entry with a first-timer in the car. Buttonwillow is only about 2 hours north of Downtown L.A., and it puts us right in the heart of the great rally roads.

Justin Murphy and Jeff Wyant have put together a very interesting event. The territory is Central California, and it has some of the best roads anywhere on the planet, bar none. Also, there are many areas out there which are very sparsely populated, so we’ll be out in the middle of nowhere for much of the rally. It should be a great run."

Thanks for the info psoper! I'll have to check these out. The April 16th one sounds like it could be cool.

The ITN rally is as much fun as you can legally have (sometimes stretching that definition) with your clothes on. It's fun, challenging, and it's not the fastest car who wins.

However, on these backroads, if you get lost and need to make up some time...

The Midnight Run on June 25/26 is going to be a blast! I ran it last year and it was seriously some of the most fun I've had in a car. There's nothing like driving like a madman in the middle of the night with a bunch of lunatics!!!

we go through this routine about every year or two- we try to have rallies in Nor Cal, it involves usually at least 2 or three days and a few tanks of gas for the person(s) putting on the rally to find good roads, find checkpoint locations, measure the mileage and write and precheck the rally.

Then we can't get checkpoint workers, and if we are lucky we get all of three or four cars running in it.

In the last 10 years of driving my WRX I've written at least 15 "local" (by that I mean starting somewhere between Santa Cruz and Sacramento) road rallies myself, and we've had a couple of other folks step up as well.

Even the Redwood Rendezvous which has happened every fall for the last 8 years- the last couple of times couldn't even get 5 entrants.

I've come to conclude that there are not enough people interested in rally to make it worthwhile here, but if someone can pick a date and assure us that we'll have at least 10 entrants, I'm sure we could find a rally to fill the need.

The Midnight Run starts in Buellton . Last year it started in Coalinga at Harris Ranch and my co-driver and I drove down there the day of the event and drove home after it ended at roughly 10:00 the next morning, albeit somewhat sleep deprived I think I'll probably do the same thing this year with a stop in SLO to visit my cousin and catch a few hours of shut eye before heading the rest of the way home.
