BART police actual time spend on the trains
is just disappointing. No disrespect to law enforcements, but it's really hard to respect BART police these days. I am not pro-Oscar either. What kind of work ethic do they have to spend less than 18mins of 10hr shift to make themselves visible to public on trains/platforms. Are they overwhelmed with tasks that need to be taken care of or really short staff?

link to an article? Somewhat unrelated, but the first round of OPD layoffs recently were community relations/walking beat cops. not the people to cut when you want to change the perception of OPD and build trust.

i think the oscar situation was just messed up, but i will give part police some respect they are over there working in some of the highest crime rate cities in the country. i can see why many people dont take them seriously, it is like campus police on a college campus no one takes them seriously.

I've had conversations with BART officers in the past, and from what I've been told, they actually patrol and make house calls to the surrounding areas of BART stations too. So I can imagine in many of the East Bay cities with high crime rates, they are pretty busy following up on other calls.

always in their BART POLICE car or truck.....NEVER on a train, agreed.
i took bart from from a friends at 1, last train. in oakland the train sat for 25 minutes while waited for others to get from other points, before crossing under the bay. bart police walked up and down the OUTSIDE of the car. and that was it!
i take bart ALL the time and never see them in the tunnel.

ya I mean I dont commute on bart so I only use it maybe a couple times a month, but when the whole Oscar thing happened my first thought was, "Oh, so bart has their own police?" I wasnt really surprised, but I had just never seen them before.
