dont have any idea where to start with trying to chose a place for building suby transmissions with aftermarket goodies. any suggestions to a place would be of great help...
also who's got reccomendations on a gearset? ra, mfactory, ppg? clutch, flywheel? car will be daily driven max 300hp, no drag strip, will probably rallyx or autox. not looking to spend thaat much money but i know itll be a few grand...
we got a lot of local vendors here too so any help would be appreciated!

You can even watch them work on it from their web cams. I know myself for any open engine or tranny work, The cleaner the shop the better quality the repairs are.
I'll have my 5 speed for sale mid december. With ACT flywheel and clutch.

I know it's weird to recommend the dealer, but I got a recommendation I trusted and went to Suby of Santa Cruz and couldn't be happier. This was for my Justy, but if you think about it, that's even crazier because who has ever rebuilt a Justy 5spd?? Anyway, Rob @ Suby of Santa Cruz rebuilt it and even signed it.
It's been about a year and it's working great.

As far as clutch/fly, either RPS with stock flywheel (my recommendation, as it maintains stock pedal pressure + 15%) or and ACT setup (stock pedal pressure +35%, not as user friendly for traffic) would be more than sufficient.

I run the exedy clutch (make your stock clutch). Pedal feel is the same as stock. And the ACT streetlite flywheel. It's a nice addition. More noisy but you get over it.
I'd either just go in and get your syncros replaced as I'm pretty sure that's the problem or go with an RA gearset with stock 5th.
I have found over the years that ACT has a stiffer pedal pressure than stock but Noah has much more experience there so I'd hate to disagree with him. Haaaa.
As for shops... plenty of good ones. GST and LIC get my nod for work of this magnitude.
Dealership is good but will be probably 30% more expensive if not more. You can try Rick's in santa cruz as well. I haven't used them but I hear good things about them.
It's worth the drive to have the shop you feel the most comfortable with do the work. Trust me.

FYI PPGs are cheaper because of the AU-US exchange rate. I was quoted from Andrewtech "PPG 1-4 syncro sets are at $3750 for the gear kit"
This is like, as opposed to $5k
Great deal right now for the best transmission money can buy
For 300hp the stock wrx box will do you fine except for the annoying gap between 1st and 2nd, I'm at like around 500 with a stock '04 Forrester 5-speed - my stock '03 box eventually broke but I was like launching the car and stuff. Unless you plan on more power it's just a waste of money to upgrade the tranny when you can upgrade other stuff
