Bad news for me regarding an accident with a cop. (long)

Well, after two months of waiting for a stinkin police report about an accident that happened back in November, my insurance company finally calls me up today to tell me that the police have decided to turn things around and made me the party at fault in an accident involving a city police officer.
Here's what happened. I was headed west and came on a 4-way intersection. I was about to turn right (northbound) when a cop came and made a very quick left turn. The front of his car collided with the front driver's side corner of the car I was driving. My car was still pointed west, because I had not begun to turn yet. I had the right of way. The really bad thing is that this happened in front of about 8-10 other police officers, because that cop was headed to a call on the same street that I was trying to turn onto. Anyways, they immediately came over and took pictures, then had the CHP come out and take the official report. I was confident that I would not come out as the party at fault because he was the one that was making a turn while I was still going straight. I had no yield sign, stop sign, red light, etc. So anyways, since I was driving my aunt's car at the time and since it only has liability insurance we're now stuck with the repair bill since they claim the accident was my fault.
I'm going to call a lawyer tomorrow and have him go after the city. I just want the car fixed, nothing more really. It just sucks how the police can blatantly lie and get away with it, even if it is totally their fault. Do you guys think I can get the city to pay for the damage done to the car? I don't see how it can possibly be my fault. But then again it's the word of 10 cops against mine, so I guess the truth doesn't matter anymore.

If their light and siren were off and you had the right of way then its totally not your fault and you should try to have them pay. Sorry to hear about that man. Good luck.

He's my attorney, he's in the East Bay Area, he's good and he's well-known.
Talk to his assistants, and they will determine if you have a good case.
Let him know you were referred by David Savell from Celebrity's Cafe in Dublin.
I wish you the best!

Yes, it does suck. I have been a victim of this as well. Cops wonder why people don't respect them...
Good luck, discuss filing a civil suit for punitive damages with your attorney after he has had a chance to go over all the evidence.
