Bad gas causing low boost?
Sorry for the book but I need some help.
Tonight I drove down to the valley from Humboldt. I filled up @ 76 right before I left as I was on E. On the big grade coming over the mountians my boost all of the sudden would only go to .7 bar or around 9lbs? That was it all through the mountians for like 150 miles.
I stoped, checked all the vacuum lines and checked the oil and was .5 quarts low so I bought some and added it. Still same issue, it would boost to .7 bar normally then just hold that and it would not go any higher. I thought back and I KNOW I hit the 91 button.
Could it have been bad gas or marked wrong? Would 87 make the ECU pull timing and boost and limit it? I should be @ 17.5 lbs where Mike set me @ my tune. I have catted Helix dp, Ecutek, 5Zigen catback and a crank pulley.
I stopped in Redding and checked all the lines again. I bought some 104 octane boost and by this time I was under half tank and fille up @ Chevron. Drove another 120 miles and finally after many times of trying boost came back.
First it would go to .9 bar then I got it to a full 1 bar. This only after 4-5 pulls from 4th-5th gear but I would only get up to 1bar in 5th @ 100mph and that was like 5.5-6k rpms. Then right before I got to my destination I got the full 17.5lbs of boost consistantly. So everythign sems fine. What do you think happened? What should I check tomorrow? Was it bad gas?

Think I got bad gas, would this cause the ecu to pull timing and limit boost?

wrong forum, but in short, yes, a bad batch of gas can/will cause detonation
When you are knocking, the ecu goes into survial mode and pulls timing, when its pulling timing, the load on the engine decreases, so you fall out of boost
Drain your tank of gas and fill up again

one thing to do is reset your ECU. I read some where over on nasioc that when you over boost+knock like mad, the ecu goes in to a limp mode where it does not boost properly.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal, press on your brake pedal until your cluster mileage display goes blank.

It was 71 outside, no spikes in boost. PM'd a mod to move.

Yup, after the boost came back in my story it stayed back. It was bad gas and for what it is worth I am going there today to tell them how I really feel about it. I mean it was a 76 station not some off brand crap and they just lost my trust
