Backyard archery in crowded bay area
I want to practice archery in my backyard.
So I took my daughter for a Groupon beginner archery and enjoyed it. Besides going to the range, I want to be able to spontaneously get up (from my couch) and fire a dozen arrows daily. So I want to setup a target in my backyard.
However, I know nothing about this. I live in a suburban neighborhood of the south bay which means that just over my 6' high wood plank fence are my neighbors; whom I do NOT want to accidentally shoot. I don't even want arrows flying over the fence ever.
Has anybody setup a backyard range in an environment like this?
Are there laws/regulations on this?
What tips for setting this up?

My daughter got hooked so I bought her her own equipment and she shoots in our backyard. I usually put up a temporary catch area behind her targets. I use a heavy duty clothesline and old comforters. So far it works. Nothing going over the fence......yet.
Her targets are stuck on a Yellowjacket target bag which is hung from a target hanger. I have to raise it up a bit for her to get the right height.

First things first, what kind of setup are we talking here, basic recurves or compounds?
Backyard setups always never work out long term. Just go where it's easiest. You could go backyard on a recurve but even I've shot through my backstop more than once. Luckily both times the fence stopped the arrows, but they had penetrated through. Recurve penetrated a couple inches, compound was to the feathers. Too risky IMHO.
Just use the county park setups: Santa Clara County Sports and Recreation Archery
There's also Black Mountain who I like simply because you can get hints/coaching/etc on the spot, plus if you want to tweak your setup or need a quick repair it's set to go: Black Mountain Bowmen Bonus here's the camaraderie. Heck, they let this lefty shoot there so go for it IMHO. Best spot I used to really frequent besides Fremont and Pacifica.
