Autox on Sunday at the Oakland Coliseum
I figured I might as well post this. There information is here: http://sfr-solo2.org/solo2/Results/2...nd08_info.html
If anyone is interested, come out. It's free to watch, but more fun to race

^ There are multiple autox groups in the area. There's generally at least one event going on every month. The event always happens on the weekend. Check out http://sfr-solo.org/solo2/cgi-bin/sc...t_three_months to see the autox events that happen for most of the groups in the area. The usual locations are the Oakland Coliseum, Candlestick, Marina Municipal Airport, and Great America.
The event this Sunday at the Coliseum is with the local SCCA group, SFR SCCA.

To do the SCCA races you have to join the SCCA. It's free to watch but I think it was $25 or so each race and a $75 membership fee for the year. There are 2 seasons of racing. I took advantage of the free year membership to SCCA they offered to people who bought a WRX in 2002 and I think 2003.

^ If you're 24 and under, you can get the membership for around 40. It costs 35 to race, and if you aren't a member you can get a weekend membership for 15 at the event. That 15 for the weekend membership can then be used towards paying the actual membership.
The American Autox Series is also a good group to check out. However, I think all of their events are in Marina this year.

It's worth the entry fee, even though you don't get a huge amount of seat time.
You actually get to drive the car at 10/10s in a safe environment. You learn a lot quickly about the on-limit handling of a Subaru, how and when to apply power to best effect. If you're like me, you also get your *** handed to you by the rest of the field. But it's a lot of fun.
