Rob and Mark : yeah, Charlie's old 86 Civic Si. Technically I own it though this time. I'll tell ya the story at the event, sorta roundabout that I came to own it and the story behind it
. We plan on trying both cars (this and the Acura)for a while, figure out which one is faster, and go from there.
We need to finish the smog (it passes, just need to go do the official one), get the brakes bled (they "work", just not as well as they should) and finish the driver's seat (custom mounted so I fit!) and it should be good to go for the event. Probably will use the Acura for Oct 21, then both for Oct 28 (one car in STS, other as "fun run") but you never know
We don't know on the power....agree it is down from the 89. Upside is we should be able to get the car down to around 1900 lb (from Nats, we can tell you most of the 89 Civics run 2020-2070), it has a 4" shorter wheelbase (good) than an 89 Civic, and about 1" narrower than an 89 Civic (good). Should be able to get the same tire under it as an 89 (the 195/50R15 Stone), so "more" tire per weight/width. The deal on the car was too good to pass up, and between what came with the car and what Charlie had left from when he owned the car there are, shall we say, a shocking number of spare parts around for us

I am not sure about Slush events, but the way it works is that it is SCCA members only. Just for this region anyways. However, you may be sponsored by an SCCA member once. Pretty much, a try before you buy type of deal. There are a certain number of available spots available which may change from event to event. Pretty much, you'll need to find someone to sponsor you. I am sure one of the more seasoned auto-x'ers would be more than happy to fill you in.
You pretty much filled him in,Kev. Slush is just like the regular season. One time as a guest, anytime after that you have to be a member.
Just ask on of the guys here to sponsor you.

* Get there early. 7:30 perhaps. Limited number of guests will be allowed. Slush attracts about 300 participants in the last 2 years.
* Drive up to the entrance and read and sign the waiver. They will give you a bracelet that you will need to put on your wrist.
* Someone correct me if I am wrong - Your sponsor should be around for sign-up. Get to the table for sign-up table and pay the dues and put your name down on the work station for the corresponding group you will be working for. That's about it.
* Make sure you walk the course at least 3 times and attend the Novice course walk as well. This will be a great tool for you if it's your first time.
* Hitch a ride with someone that's been around. Ask anyone. They're usually very nice and will let you ride. Just not on the 3rd run when it's GO TIME!
The best advise ever given to me is - Slow in. Fast out. This works great in the rain.
Hope that helps. GAGAN - Sponsor the guy!

Sponsor is responsible for the guest the ENTIRE day. So yeah, you need to be there...the entire time the guest is there. The "sponsor" responsibility doesn't end at the end of the reg table, and yes I've had to verbally kick a couple of butts in the past to make that crystal clear to folks
darkonion and -j- pretty much covered it. One note : I expect a "somewhat" lighter turnout that day since there are other competing events (other autocross, plus Lemons race). That said, I sure would NOT expect to show up at 11:45 and register as a guest

Just get there early to play it safe. Be like me, no matter what run group I'm in, I'm always there bright and early !

If you are a SCCA member, you just have to show up and register at the desk. If you aren't an SCCA member, you'll need to find a sponsor and both of you will register the day of.
