Question Auto Insurance

hi,

I just got a renewal on my insurance from allstate, it's costing me an arm and a leg... well close to it anyway.

I'm thinking of changing insurance companies, please recommend some that are reliable and reasonably affordable. when I mean reliable, I don't mean eastwood or gieco. I've heard bad reviews from friends on how those two insurance companies just "miraculously" disappear when in need.

Thanks for your help!

You should really shop around. Search this forum for other 'insurance' threads. It will vary from person to person because of where you live, whether or not your car is garaged, is your car your daily commuter, your age and marital status, and of course your driving record.

While there are a few companies that are more consistently cheaper than others, there isn't one insurance company that is best for all subie owners, otherwise we'd all name the same insurance carrier.

I am a Sys Admin for an insurance brokerage with offices in SF, Oakland, Petaluma, Sacramento, and Redwood City called ABD Insurance. They are one of the top two or three insurance brokerages on the west coast.

Basically what they do is offer insurance from all the big carriers (farmers, statefarm, allstate, AIG, republic, travelers, progressive, safeco, etc.) They find the best deal for you. They might be able to get a better deal for you since they have no loyalty to any one company.

Give them a call, see if they can quote you a policy.

1-650-839-6000 (Redwood City)

Ask for Lee Neidle in the Personal Lines Department for new accounts.

Tell him Ryan Horikoshi referred you. he'll hook you up as best he can.

Good luck!

I went with State Farm for $1100. They've been good to me in the past. I saw some other threads here about 21st Century, but they were quoting me around $1200.

I'm starting to think about getting a daily driver, like a Ford Focus. Anyone know how much the insurance changes?

If you still want to shop around, look into 21st century, Nationwide and possibly Safeco.

Good luck.

The Focus if not the SVT, would range about 15% - 20% below I would think.

I have Mercury. Far from cheap but they are awesome.

I pay about $175 a month with a clean record, renters insurance and over 25/10years deductions.

Sucks...I figured I'd be down to $150..but no. errr.

That is some great, yet useless information! Good for you though - I have heard they are great for those that can join.

I have Progressive - have for many years. The policy is not that all competitive and the service is crap if you need it. The insurance cards sure do look nice though. Maybe I will call that broker dude and see what's up. I think I pay around $770 every 6 for the WRX and an '80 Celica. No tickets, wife, or any other problems.

damn you guys have some cheap insurance. I need to talk to my agent man.

770 for 6 months? for 2 cars....

I'm paying like $1100 or something. 04 wagon. No points. No wife. No nothing. Clean as a whistle. Only ticket got cleaned off with traffic school like a year plus ago. I even have an additional deduction because of my renters insurance.

That like an extra $50 a month I could save for mods..errrr.

It's really weird. After last year's divorce fun, my insurance went up (huh) and then down after I took off her car. It's now settled down to about what it was before for some odd reason. I am also 27 with no accidents and a clean driving history, no tickets (thank you ticketassassin.com) or anything. Keep in mind an '80 Celica is worth insuring just for the multi-car discount (want my VIN?) as it's super cheap. I think it ads around $130 to the policy (then minus 20% from the total) and it was $29 to register last year. Damn fun car too.

I need renters ins - wonder if Progressive has that.. Hmm...

Ugh...

my insurance just went up about $500 a year... my agent said it was because the WRX just got re-rated or some such thing... at any rate it's making me think of getting an older non turbo subaru... *sigh*
