Sounds like my type of sandwich. Wonder if I can get some avocado with that!

(1) Perry's Deli - Chicago, IL (Perry's Deli - The Biggest & Best Sandwiches in Chicago (maybe even in the world))

Either the Peter Panski (baked ham, peanut butter, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo) or The Caveat Emptor (roast beef, corned beef, and turkey with lettuce, tomato, Muenster and Swiss cheeses, with Russian dressing and a tad bit of mustard, on rye)

(2) Katz's Delicatessen - New York City, NY (Katz's Delicatessen | We ship nationwide. Order online now.)

Any sandwich really, but I heart their pastrami

+1 to both of these. Perry's is a couple blocks from my office in Chicago (though admittedly I usually end up at The Monk's Pub or Haymarket).

Katz's is pretty amazing, and it's the "When Harry Met Sally" place for people born before 1980. I used to like Eisenberg's too and it's directly across the street from the office I work out of in Manhattan. Haven't been there for a year or so though and looks like they have some pretty nasty yelp reviews.

But I thought we were talking about the Bay Area. Maybe not. If you want a kick-*** Pastrami though, check out The Refuge in San Carlos on Laurel. Great (and I mean GREAT) beer selection, and two doors down from an AMAZEBALLS beer selection at Ale Arsenal.

One of my all time favorites though is Jersey Joe's in San Carlos. I have consistently loved this place for many years. They grind/cut their own beef for burgers and cheesesteaks. Great beers on tap for the cheapest prices I have seen. They have Ballast Point's Sculpin IPA on tap right now. Last time I went in there, they had my order cooking before I got to the counter.

Depends on my mood, how much time I have, where I am...

Subway - Chicken Bacon Ranch on Sourdough
Togo's - #30 on Parmesan
Ike's - Hella Fat Bastard on Sourdough
LG Meats - Jackie Special on Sourdough

I do like my sourdough. I have been to Freshly Baked. Although the bread is uber fresh and delicious, the rest of the sandwich is lack luster IMO.

Ike's is probably the best. But I wish their sandwiches were a little bit bigger. 50% more would be perfect. 1, not enough. 2, too much. 1.5, perfect.

Ate there for the first time last week. I went back the next day and had it again. I can attest to the beer selection, it is excellent! The bartender was very knowledgeable and helped me pair a beer to my Ruben with Munster instead of Swiss.

Legit. No frills tasty cheese steak at this joint. When I worked in Belmont I was there once a week. They would have your order cooking before you ordered.

PDQ SAMMICH ON TEH BEACH AT MEEKS! That may be my favorite sandwich. I grew up on them when at Tahoe! Fresh bread every morning.

Oh yeah, Amato's. I have been there a few times years ago - it was alright but not great. In the reviews you linked, on the first page, someone mentions living close to Amato's and still driving allllllll the way up to Jersey Joe's. Heh.

Jersey Joes in San Carlos/Belmont/ redwood city is ok. Best cheese steak I've had was home made tho.
