Audio Installation
Hello guys,
So I ordered a head unit , speakers and amps for my car.
The audio place is charging me close to 400 to get everything installed. Does this sound right? like 250 for the head unit and 150 for the speakers...
The thing is.. I already have monster cabling installed in my car. Wouldn't this make the whole installation process a lot easier?
Anyone pretty comfortable with doing this stuff? I dunno, 400 just seems steep for popping off door panels and plugging/unplugging speakers.
i dun mind paying . there will also be beer. lots of beer.
I just dont know how to remove my doors or else i would love to do it myself.

the head unit is extremely easy, they make wiring kits to make it even more plug n play. The speakers could be a bit tricky if they are a different size than stock because they will have to cut a space to make them fit. 400$ seems high for just speakers and headunit. If they are doing an amp too, then that sounds about right. If you have friends that can do it, it shouldn't take more than a couple hours. Or find articles online that show how to do it. It's not too bad to learn it.
what are you actually getting installed? if its just deck and speakers 400 is pure rape. but if its a navigation and component speakers (seperate woofer and tweeter) and amp(s) 4ch and mono install, it sounds about right.
i actually havnt done a speaker in a suby (o.O) but as for decks and installing amps/running wires, its cake.

yea i feel like 400 is a bit crazy
Previous owner of the car had wanted 3k extra for his nav and sound system so i told him to take it out. he did but he left all the wiring for hte amp and stuff still in.
I bought a Pioneer F90BT headunit with nav
a JL HD600 amp for the speakers
speaker-wise i bought two sets of JL ZR-650s. I believe these are component speakers with crossovers.
i think im going to get a stealthbox and power it with a HD750 or something but.. if the installation is going to cost 400 .. that might have to wait...
yar, none of my friends are really into audio so i dunno.

deck with navigation
4 component speakers
4 channel amplifier
subwoofer and amplifier
just make sure you're using 4 gauge wires and 400 sounds right for those kind of work, of course, non hook up, retail install price.

I can help you do yours, I did my car install from HU to Amps and Sub, speakers were already in all you need to do is remove door cards to get to speakers. I have the pry bar that makes taking plastic rivets/clips a breeze to remove. I am in Castro Valley about a 20-30 minute drive in traffic from Freakmont. I would be more then happy to help you out, tips, bribes, donations greatly appreciated
Oh and I thought $250 was too much for HU, and Amp wiring and installation

I've done all my own stereo installs the last 10 years, ain't that hard.
If all the wiring is essentially done then thats 60% of the work done already.
You can get the dash install kit, antenna adapter, & wiring harness adapter @ Fry's. Best to solder the harness adapter to the headunit pigtail, but you can also just use crimps. If you have an iPod and are gonna wire it in, I suggest running the wire into the glovebox since it locks. Just pass the wire through the slot on the left side of the glove box that the alignment peg is in. Helps to notch it about 1/2" at the back part for clearance.

i meant speed sense for the navigation to calculate the eta and estimate your position when the gps signal is weak or lost. the ebrake wire can just be grounded, however, the new pioneer units will disable the bypass when it detects that the car is moving, that however can also be bypassed.

I'm just a 4 gauge wiring kit and a distribution block away from getting my stereo stuff together. I'm just putting my effort towards the front stage. I have some Illusion Audio 6.5" slim mids, Blaupunkt Velocity tweets (with x-overs), and a Rockford amp collecting dust! I've got some RAAMmat too. If you guys want in on whatever I don't use, I got plenty (I think I just need it for my trunk lid, rear deck, and front doors). I've never done a more elaborate install myself with two amps and sound deadening. Sorry to hijack!
