ATTN: Wagon hatch rattle SOLVED

For the past couple of years I've been getting this ****in annoying rattle coming from the hatch of my wagon. I did everything I could to try and solve it, but couldn't fix it.
Today I tried to fix it again on my 9999th time and was SUCCESSFUL.

If you look closely at the rubber stopper, it is spiral cut, much like a screw. I unscrewed it by 2 full rotations and all the rattling stopped like magic.

Now I need to figure out how to stop that rattling in the VIN area...

The rattle on my hatch is so severe that even backing out the rubber stoppers all the way is not enough. I used to have these leftover little plasticky-rubber squares (which I used to fix the glove box rattle) which I stuck on TOP of the rubber stoppers which worked for a while, until they fell off. I think I might try applying them again, or maybe use foam tape or something, to the actual part of the body the stoppers come in contact with, as opposed to on the stoppers themselves.

As for the VIN rattle, I was thinking about sliding a thin piece of foam tape or a piece of thin cardboard or something under the VIN plate so as to fill up the extra space between the plate and the dash. Hopefully, this will work. Another possible solution was to just fill in the gap with carefully applied silicone or something.

I have also developed a new rattle from the plastic under-body tray. All of the clips and screws are there, but apparently they cannot be tightened enough to prevent the thing from rattling. Maybe foam tape for that too?

All of these little rattles and squeaks drive me crazy. Every time I hear them, which is quite often nowadays, makes me want to sell my car and buy something better made (albeit slower, and possibly FWD). I'm probably the biggest proponent of function over form/bang for the buck, which the WRX is as great an example of as any car out there, but sometimes.....

The rattles drive me insane too. I was seriously considering selling the suby for an IS300.

That's right.

An IS300.

LOL.

Pull that whole trim piece off (it's one piece and goes all the way across the front of the dash. You just pull on it, it'll come eventually. Some auto interior pry tools help, but aren't necessary.)
Put some thick double sided mounting tape or thick sticky backed foam or felt in several areas, especially by the driver's door corner. Then snap it back down. That worked for me for a few years. It apparently isn't the VIN plate itself, but something underneath there.

Oh, also, my "privacy cover" rattles.....

As for the VIN rattle, I have read that it's actually the whole plastic piece, but I swear that when I'm driving and hear the rattle, pressing gently down on the VIN plate makes the rattle disappear......

I push down and it stops also. Whats the privacy cover? The flap above the mirror?

It's that roll-up flap/screen thing in the trunk that covers up the luggage.

My exhaust is too loud for me to hear any rattles.

Next time, push down right next to the VIN plate, but not ON the VIN plate

You probably need the latch hook position adjusted
