Joe with the white G20 is a cool guy. I enjoyed talking to him and Chris after we had a spirited drive through there Saturday night. He drove his G20 really well.

a minute after I passed two cars off on the side of the road, I noticed another pair of headlights far behind me. I waited up for them... and that's how they caught up. since I enjoy going through there with other people, I waited up to make sure he hadn't crashed or anything when I didn't see his lights behind me anymore.

I drive a pretty good pace through there and I'm sure someone else is much faster, but I am mindful of the traffic that might be coming around calaveras's many blind corners. I also stopped a few times to wait up for him, but, I mean, he has half the power and allseasons so I didn't really expect that he'd keep up. It was a fun drive though.

He says that he was stopping and letting the G20 catch up, and if he were really racing that he'd have left the car.

If the G20 guy wasn't be honest, then Yepez is still the boy wonder. but Yepez won't post here. I mean, I just asked a simple question, cause I'm only hearing the one side until Yepez IMed me a few mins ago.

I did have to wait up for him a few times, but I wasn't "racing" him. I wouldn't even really consider an STi vs. a G20 a real "race," either. I was very impressed with Joe's driving, though.

I think one more alternative must be added into that last statement: Joe and I weren't racing and we just had a fun time going through a canyon together at 11pm. :rotfl:

Big brother Edgar, what's up. I asked young Yepez a question, to get his side what happened. He's said it.

I'm here to tell the story as seen from the G20. I was riding shotgun with Joe when we this all went down. So the story goes...Joe, Chris and myself were waiting as the cars cooled down after a rather brisk run through Calaveras rd. While we were standing there, Mr. Yepez turned on to Calaveras and flew right
past us. Joe wanted to go after him, so him and I got in the G20 and Chris followed in his car. When we got going we could see Yepez aways up the road(about 500 meters, or a little over a 1/4 mile). At that point it didn't look like he was slowing down at all. Either way Joe kept going. A mile or two into the
road Joe had caught up. When Joe got close we could both tell that Yepez started to push harder, so yes I suppose he may have slowed up a little for us to catch up. Either way, It was now nose to tail, STI in front and G20 following behind, and it stayed like that for awhile. Corner after corner Joe would catch up at corner entry(better braking on Joe's part) and Yepez(Sorry if I'm spelling the name wrong) would pull hard exiting(huge power and traction advantage). Anyways, It was really even until the brakes faded on the G20. Joe slowed his pace to let the brakes cool. Now here I'm sure Yepez did slow down until Joe started up again....
...alright brakes cooled down. Joe sped up to resume the chase. Once Joe caught up agian it was just like before until Yepez cheated(hehe) and pulled away in the STRAIGHT two lane section in the middle of Calaveras(again power advantage). Eventually towards the Sunol end of the road we met up again with Mr. Yepez where both he and Joe took it easy the rest of the way.

At the end, we pulled off the road and talked awhile. Where Mr. Yepez stated, and I quote, "You(to Joe) are the fastest driver I have seen here besides myself(Yepez)." That is a pretty big statement considering you were just "taking it easy" on Joe. Now I'm not here to ruin your, what seems to be, already bad reputation. All I'm saying is you know as well as I do that you were pushing pretty hard and yes the G20 was right behind you. I'm not calling it an official race, but it was pretty damn fast for a leisurely cruise. Yes you could have kept going when Joe slowed down to let the brakes cool, but that doesn't prove much. From what I saw both of you were driving pretty good, Joe a little better, considering he had almost the same weight, half the power, half the drive wheels, half the tire, but twice the leather interior. Give credit where credit is due. You can't say you were impressed with Joe's diving and then turn around and say you slowed way down for him, which is it? You can say you were taking it easy and the debate goes on or you could admit that Joe and his G20 are a fast combo and life will go on. Thats all I have to say.

Andrew

P.S. the G20 is an amazing car, so don't get your panties in a bunch about it being this "slow car" that kept up. A G20 can hold its own.

I slowed down and waited up at this point...

I slowed down as soon as I saw another pair of headlights come onto that road and waited up for you guys. I put it in second and cruised at 10mph till you caught up.

You're also faster when you're behind someone, especially at night. I was making sure that there weren't any deer or other cars around the corners. If you recall, there were 2 cars that came in the opposite direction. I wasn't driving at the limit of the car, but rather at a brisk pace. I didn't want to "lose" you guys, hence why I waited up for you guys three times.

Either way, pushing it or not, when Joe and I talked afterwards on AIM, he said that it's much easier and quicker to follow someone. I notice this myself. Here's what he said exactly:

To which I agree. I didn't want to hit anyone, and I did slow down because of this reason. Oncoming traffic is a huge issue considering how narrow the road is.

So you said earlier that he had to wait for his brakes to cool and in the same breath say that Joe drove better because of "better braking on his part." Whose brakes faded? I don't fade my brakes on the street. That's what I avoided by not driving at the limit of the car. Joe was driving extremely well, and it is evident in my post that I was just giving him props for keeping up with less traction and less power. I think he's an awesome driver. I wasn't driving near the limit of the car because it is almost impossible to do so at night, and it is unwise on public roads. I wasn't sure of the conditions of the road because I was just taking it to go home. You guys had done several runs on it previously. Being that there are often rocks in the middle of the road and stuff, I had to account for that and drive more cautiously. Being in front is slower, period.

You're missing my point. I can say that I was impressed with his driving AND say that I did slow down for him. I wasn't racing, and it is UNDENIABLE that the STi was at a great advantage for power and braking and traction (which you admit yourself) which doesn't make Joe a bad driver--it just makes it more difficult to keep up, WHICH IS WHY I give credit where it is due that Joe drove his car so well. (That is why I stopped and talked to you guys afterwards.)

Did I ever say it was slow? I didn't...
