ARGH!! Anyone know how to extract a broken 14mm bolt?

ARGH!!

Not sure if I should post this in the classified or on the forums. Just borked a 14mm (thick) bolt that sits near the lower part of the knuckle. Anybody know where I can get this bolt, fairly quickly and cheap?

Seeing how GC imprezas are scarce in the junkyards... I guess a last resort is to drive over to the dealer and pick one up...

Also anyone familiar with extracting a broken bolt?? Especially a 14mm bolt that is pretty thick...... I was so close.... so close to fixing my wheel bearing FFFUUUUUUU!!!

Did you actually break the bolt or just round the head off?

Wished I round the head, instead I broke the bolt almost in half.

you'll have to go pick up a bolt extract kit. it comes with drill bits and a backwards threaded bolt. So what you do is drill into the bolt then thread the backwards extractor in and start turning. I have had to do this before.

Good luck to you.

Drill the sucker out. Reverse drill bit/extrator would probably be the only way. Sure the rest of that bolt stuck in there is pretty seized, seeing the the head of it broke off. Just be careful drilling so you don't mess the threads up.

Drill it out, then get the next size up bolt and nut and put that in.
Or buy a new knuckle/upright.

Actually this is my second knuckle, I have my old one I can reuse.... but would not like to install and fixed the borked wheel bearing.

Anyone know where I can buy the bolt for cheap?

Depends on how stiff the bolt is, but I have welded a small bar of metal to the bolt and just spun the bar...

If you broke the head off your best bet is to get a bolt extractor kit (not that expensive), or to weld something else onto it so that you can pull it out. I wouldn't recommend drilling it out and then having to retap the threads. Don't forget to use some penetrating fluid first.

if it is the same size as the camber bolt (non-adjustable), you can get it at the dealer. i think they are like $7-8.

This exact thing happened to me when I changed my brake calipers. I got the bolt extractor kit, but the bolt was so rusted and ruined the threading for the hole, so I had to rethread the hole.
I'd use penetrating oil/fluid and let it sit a really long time.

For a replacement bolt, I swapped from legacy calipers to wrx ones and the wrx bolts were the same. So you might be able to get another one of any Subaru?
