Can I have some of what you're smoking? It's awfully good stuff, IMHO.
Aperture allows me to keyword, create projects/albums within projects, and sort pictures down to capturing single images in a search.
It's a matter of setting it up and organizing a naming convention which works for you, as most of my files are stored on an external HD, and the masters never get touched. It's far easier, and I can simply reference my external files while working with an image, take the external HD to another computer, and have the original image intact.

My photos are all referenced photos, not managed photos, which means they are NOT kept in the Aperture Library, so there is no "bundle file" with each photo. From my understanding after working with Aperture for last 8 months, I have a file which is a copy accessible from Aperture. I can manipulate it all I want, then make a new copy from the original, which sits untouched on my external drive.
