Apple Patents Remotely Disabling Jailbroken Phones
http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl.../08/20/1410217
This is a short so i'm going to post it.
"Apple yesterday applied for patent to allow remotely disabling electronic devices when 'unauthorized usage' is detected. The patent application covers using the camera to take pictures of the unauthorized user and using GPS to determine location, and it involves ascertaining whether the phone has been hacked or jailbroken, using that as criteria for detecting 'suspicious behavior.' The patent would allow the carrier or any other 'authorized' party to disable or restrict the functionality of the device. Is this Apple's latest tool to thwart jailbreaking?"
Apple has to have total control over their products and they are acting like *****. This is a step above DRM in my eyes. I do love my macbook pro though.

I guess you can get away with it. Although these kids were using school laptops. The idea of someone taking pictures of you on your mobile device is so shady

It really seems like this would be used to brick stolen phones more than to brick jailbroken phones. I understand that you could report your phone stolen, then they brick it. It would work like onstar or whatever for stolen cars. That part is actually cool with me.
I'm curious as how they would use it to stop jailbroken phones, would they have to look at everyone's phones? That is too much of a privacy invasion and I doubt anyone would do that. I just don't know why apple wont let people jailbreak their phone, its really out of their hands and they no longer need to support those phones.

I thought it was legal to jailbreak your iphone now. Legal but would still void the warranty. I don't recall restricting the iphone's functionality. lame.
