Does anybody know where I can get high oct gas such as 102? I know it's going to be expensive, but I just wanted to give it a try since our gas here in CA sucks for our engines and turbos. I heard from a buddy that shell in Pac commons has the 102. If so, does anyone feel a difference compared to 92 octane.

 

If you tune for it then you will feel a difference. If you are not tuning for it, then I believe it was up to somewhere between 94-96 Octane that ECU can actually take advantage of. So if you are going to run it, then you are going to end up with a mix.

You will hear a lot of people saying that it will make a difference and a lot of people saying it won't make a difference. To me, when I tried it as a mix I did notice a difference. Unfortunately that is using the butt dyno so while my car was a lot smoother idling and felt quicker it is hard to say exactly how much of a difference it really made. However if you have ever driven out of state and driven on 93 or 94 octane vs the CA 91 octane you will be able to see just what kind of a difference you could probably expect from running the mix.

BTW - There is a gas station in Sunol (Between Fremont and Pleasanton off of 680) right off the freeway that sells all types of octanes right now.

 

The 76 statioin on the corner of Foxworthy and Almaden Expy has 100oct at the pump.

 

Thats a weird gas station to sell that stuff isn't it? I just think its weird. Its kinda boonies

The butt dyno is a lot more sensitive to performance change (real and unreal) than a rolling dyno. Most likely any gain in horsepower will be a placebo effect. Even if you reset the ECU, it can take up to a full tank of driving for the ECU to relearn with the higher octane.

However, after a buddy of mine and I ran 100 octane (both cars were tuned for it) we noticed smoother idle for the next tank or two.

 

U won't notice much of a differece unless u tune for the higher octane. I fill up at almaden 76 they have 100 octane.

 

I tried a quarter tank of 100 octane with no tune one time and I definitely feel a smoother spool

 

The gas station at the bottom of hwy 9 in downtown saratoga has 1 pump that has 100 octane

 

76's 100 is supposedly more like 98oct as I've heard

 

And who do you hear this from and how do they measure it? A 15 gal tank with 3 gallons of 91 and 12 gallons of 100, would equal 98.8 octane. A 12 gallon (about the size of an evo x tank) with 2 gallons of 91 and 10 gallons of 100, would equate to about 98.5 octane.

 

Don't run the 76 gas 100oct regularly for too long. Made my plugs coated with a red colored residue, AHQ told me to stop using octane booster but it was just 100 mix with 91!

My car ran great however with 93 Octane from VP gas stations.

a 15 gallon tank with 3 gallons of 91 and 13 of 100 would also overflow with that extra gallon.
