Anyone use Shell Rotella T6 5w40?
I recently changed my oil and used Mobil 1, and noticed my oil burning really fast. After some research I guess it is a VERY common problem with wrx's.
It seemed like Shell Rotella T was the best bang for your buck for an oil and everyone loved it so I went to the store to pick some up and noticed a new T6 formula. It is supposed to be higher quality and at $20 a gallon I decided to pick it up.
Just wondering if anyone has been using the T6 formula and has any info or opinions. I searched throughout NASIOC and google and not many people have tried it out yet since it is hard to find on shelfs.
Thanks in advance!
*EDIT* I meant Rotella T6 5w40

To the OP: If you're willing to take a small risk, go with the T6, otherwise, stay with the regular T since it's been proven over and over again (and easier to find).

I used rotella on my last oil change and have just bought the t6 for my next one. i read up on http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1584867 and it seems the t6 is just as good

Mods, maybe... tune, maybe... Driving, maybe... lack of maintinence, maybe... Or just straight up early failure, probably...
But not the type of oil.
When they teared the block down, what did they say broke?

Have you tried using the 5W40? I was using the 15W40 for a while, but since it was hitting high 20s where I live, I switched over to the 5W40, and noticed a pretty big difference at startup, but I'm just wondering if it's in my head.

Use whichever oil you want. Pay attention to the numbers if you live in the sierras, or Arizona in the summer. If you use an oil with the standards that your car needs, you will be in good shape.
Just remember that the higher the weight doesn't mean it's thicker. It just means thickness at a given temp or engine state.

LMAO!
Of course this will protect better, it's formulated for more diesel motors! (which is what I remember Rotella being.)
Now, i've always wanted to use a diesel oil in a gas car because diesel oils have nearly 5-10x more wear protection agents/particles vs similar weight oil for gas motors.
This also means it will get dirty faster as it strips harmful items away from solid metals, but shouldn't be an issue if you change the oil frequently.
This is interesting. I'll have to look at a bottle and see what cert's it carries. Would be good to use in the Taurus and maybe the subie.

The 15W is because non-synthetic Rotella T comes in a 15W40 oil. A lot of people say to stay away from synthetic (I'm guessing because of the Mobil 1 debate), but a lot of people say use Rotella T, which leads to the non-synthetic 15W40. I've been using the 15W40, until it started hitting high 20s in Livermore.
