Anyone with a TD05-16g-small in the BAIC?

I found a sweet deal on one and want to see how the lag is compared to the stock turbo.
Anybody willing to take me for a ride in theirs?

PLEASE!

EVO's come stock with them. Go test drive one. Heh. Lag should be around the same as a VF34, that turbo isn't too bad in terms of lag.

Did you ever ride in Jon's L? I've rode in and drove it and his td05 is no slouch when it comes to spooling... and that was even when he still had the looong L gearing in the old tranny.

let me rephrase:

I am looking for someone with a 2.0L WRX with the following mods:
* TD05-16g with smaller compressor
* Injectors
* fuel pump
* TMIC (USDM/JDM STi)

Preferably in the south bay.

thats a good turbo if youre concerned about lag. also get it PnP'd

would you have to go 3" all the way back and catless to run this turbo optimally?

Just a W.A.G. here, but the 'big' 16Gs on the EVOs can put down up to 290whp at Gruppe-s on pump gas and a good set of cams, so I would guess the small 16Gs would be around VF34 size. Yeah Ive always wondered how well they compare to 34s spool/power wise. let us know if you find any good info!

Whats the boost threshold on a turbo like that?

you know I've heard lots and lots of people talk about a small 16g being superior to a vf series but all the dynos I've seen on mustang/DD's come out to like 250ish.

The great thing about the big16g if you look at the comp map is that althogh its max flow in terms of engine CFM is actually less than the small16g it's more efficient at higher boost than many other pump gas turbos. Result is it makes more power when other turbos are just blow hot air at like 22psi or something. Couple that with cams for the topend, and you begin to see why evos rock!

250ish is all vf series turbo's do on DD/Moostangs.

I would say if anything the 16g comes on a little sooner than the vf34 but doesn't have as much up top although the difference alround is negligable.

The big 16g is a nice unit but don't forget it's a reversed twin scroll as well which helps it's response on the Evo.

see, I find this sweet deal(www.speedsin.net) for $400 I can get one of these with a modified inlet.
I really want more power, but I do not want the lag of a VF34, and I really shouldn't dish out $8K for a built 2.5L. So really what I am looking for is
A) wrecked STi that I can strip parts from.
B) Faster spooling turbo that will yield some decent power with out spending too much cas.

I should just save for the rainy day I find me a wrecked STi so I can get a 6 speed, drive line, brembos and all!

I will be getting crucial headers once they have a core set for me(Please hurry Jeremy!) which should help with spool up.

I know Adam has a VF35 on his track ready RS, he probably chose it for power and spool characteristics (just guessing).

The only thing that scares me is the e-gangsters on nasioc saying the 16g small spools like a VF34, and that is barfy to me.

I figured a bigger turbo is not worth the money (for 91 gas) so I have a similiar goal. I just bought a big tmic, and will be buying some headers for my wrx, so I will be a 'stage 2' + tmic + headers + ecutek custom tune. It should spool fast and have more topend. Hopefully this will be done before may, I will post the results.

Must be a good price, since online, I find the VF-35 is around the same price as the 16g

headers? IIRC, that'll delay spool but when it does spool it pulls harder.
