Anyone in Santa Rosa with an 06 WRX?
i need someway to check to see if my ecu is good or not, probably not a good idea to check someone's ecu in my car, that could be bad as pointed out below
just thinking back on this, what if i try my ecu, which is potentially bad, on a good system, a known working car?
the car of course wouldnt start because the immobilzer system wouldnt be keyed right, but it should start for a second or two at least right?

I suggest trying something different, you run the risk of frying their ecu also if you did fry yours. One of the rules of troubleshooting electronics, do not borrow a known good component from a known good system to test in a known bad system. The results of doing so are normally bad.
I would suggest instead putting your ecu in their car to see what happens.
Double check all your electrical connections especially fuel, ignition and starter first though.
