Anyone know what kind of spider this is? Besides one that should be killed with fire?

Dude! You're not the one that had to take it! Once I got up on the chair to take it the wind started to blow the web closer to me.
I mean, the web is a good 8 feet above the ground, so if it isn't a dangerous spider I won't kill it. But if it is dangerous, that ****er is getting torched.

It's your garden variety orb weaver.
It's harmless to you and usually makes some big webs out on patios and around garden. Good for eating pests.

I have these spiders all over my neighborhood, there was 2 or 3 in my front doorstep, about 3 above my bedroom window, and a few more in the backyard. The size of the body makes me not want to mess with these suckers.
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

Enjoy

This is an average size spider further north (near Redding). Fortunately they keep to themselves. They are called Nursing spiders and like tarantulas, they are active this time of year.

Got those crawling around in san lorenzo too. I just kill them all if they are inside the house or the garage. I really don't like waking up and walking into cob webs. Or knowing these things are crawling around while I sleep once I have spotted them.
I have a few garden spiders in my front yard, they will get huge if they eat well. I had a buddy throw meal worms in the spider web and it ate the huge meal worm. The spider spun it in a tight web and then ate it, I have one now that's really big and few others smaller!
